I asked GFC to repost his story here.

A guy in my dock had all his fishing gear stolen off of his center console last week.

Seems to me that idle hands may be more prone to mischief this year. Watch your boats and your equipment.

MM, Which peninsula? A, B, C, D, E?

There was a thread earlier this year discussing wifi cameras. I have two onboard and am notified if there's any movement. I just added a microSD card to both and now have 24/7 recording.

Not to mention, I open the app on my phone and can see my cockpit within 15 seconds...

Someone a few docks over had someone on their fly bridge for a few days and he was arrested. There have been a few thefts, based on an email the marina sent out. Not sure on specifics.

What cameras are you using?

i started watching the hearing but had to leave. Seems a couple of fine young men were caught by the cops down at the dock I'm on. They had stolen a very nice dinghy took it somewhere, then returned in another small boat that was not theirs. The hull number on the second boat as well as the registration numbers on the hull had been scraped off. Intent? Hmmmmm

Nice looking young men, eh? The kind you'd like your daughter to marry and that you'd like to crack open a few beers with. NOT!!!

They had been on my fly bridge and turned on the stereo up there and also turned on rhe plotter/GPS. A friend two boats down from mine phoned the cops when he saw them leave in the dinghy. That was about 10:00 p.m. He heard my stereo on at that time.

I wish I'd been on board my boat when they boarded. I'd gladly replace the patio door that leads to the salon because the glass had been shattered by a small piece of copper and lead.

When did this happen Mike?

Marina down from us where my mother and step-father keep their boat had break-ins last week. Mom said mostly just beer missing but not sure what else.

Greg, Monday night around 10:00 p.m. I think probably they went aboard several boats but have no proof of that.

It would be nice if they even got cameras to cover the docks. A few years ago they said they had camera coverage but the last time something iike this happened and the boat owner asked them to review the videos to see if they had pics of the bad guys the Port had to admit their cameras only covered the main building and parking lots.

If your marina is more like a parking lot for boats security cameras are OK. My Marina is like my backyard where I park my boat, I work on projects out there, we relax with a cigar and bourbon later in the evening. I do not want to feel that my Boating life is on camera for others to see. I would feel very put upon if it was.

My last marina had good cameras that you could access online. They were basically public. You could see my boat perfectly and I really liked checking in on it through the week.... but most of my dock neighbors were livid about the cameras... I think it’s one of those hate them, love them things

That was when Andy's boat was stolen, he's a few boats down from me.
More camera coverage would be nice, or at least open the wifi up so we can put our own wifi cameras on our boats.
They opened it up after Andy's boat was stolen, but it refreshes somewhere around every 15 minutes.
Makes it useless.

I asked our marina owner if they were planning on putting up cameras and making them web cams so that we could watch our boats while we were away. He looked me dead in the eye and told me that too many customers would be getting divorced if that happened. I didn't ask him to elaborate as I got the gist immediately.

had that happen in one of the marinas near us. The camera was taken down.
