Since we are closing in the screen porch we will have to use the rear deck for dinner & drinks. The ultimate plan is to build another screen porch in that location. Until then I'd like to get some kind of repellent. Lathering up with sprays and lotions is not an option.

My neighbor uses a company that uses a blower and what smells like garlic. She states it's done ok. I am not a fan of this stuff if it effs up the environment, plants, bugs and such.

I found this rechargeable repellent that looks promising: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LXCSSVR/?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AwEAAAAAAAAAAkQo&th=1

What say you?

Everyone I boated with last summer had one of these Thermacells….. they swore by it. I bought one at the end of summer so didn’t really get a chance to really see if it worked for me

+1 on Thermocell. We use the “backpacker” model so we don’t have to buy the little butane cartridges all the time.
Plus, if you forget to turn it off, you usually have plenty left.

I have a few old school style Hurricane lanterns and oil lamps. If you fill them up with the tiki torch fuel with citronella instead and then place them around the area you are occupying they work decently at keeping the bugs away for me. Looks kinda cool too.

Down in Houston where the mosquito's are a full time problem year round.. We have a dynatrap going with lure. The trick is to let the machine run 24/7 and it does a good job. Also make sure there is no standing water around your area. That believe it or not does help alot.

The barn has an installed spray system for the horses. We installed it when the barn was built. Essentially it is a large barrel filled with a Pyrethrin/PBO based insecticide with a high-pressure pump and tubing running to fogger nozzles located around the barn and in the stalls. There are no mosquitoes, flys, spiders, or no-see-ums. So I installed one around my house about 15 years ago. Every morning and at dusk the system fogs the house for 30 seconds. I have no bug issues here in Fl. The barrel is 55 gallons and mixed with a 1 gallon concentrate kit; it lasts around 9 months.
There are several companies that make spray systems. We got ours and the repellent from - https://shoo-fly.com/

Dang! That would be great, however up here it would be another thing that has to be winterized. Can’t we just bring back DDT?

That's outstanding! Looks like I have another project at the new place...

The mosquito situation at our new home is ridiculous. We went from snow three weeks ago to mosquitos and ticks.

Question for any Floridians with the Thermacells - do they work on no-see-ums?
Years of vacationing in Florida and had our first run in with those bastards last year WTF?
