Hello. Just had our new to us 2015 280 DA delivered to us over the weekened. When the transport guy picked it up there was no power to the boat at all. This was odd as the batteries were brand new and put in mid November. He delivered and we pulled her to out slip and plugged her in. Came back next day, still now power. Long story short we tried a few things, the marina where we bought it tried a few things and we couldnt come up with anything. Last night we manually opened that hatch and found someone up there had removed the negatives from the batteries. No we know why no power!!! My question is why would the backfeed through the cig lighter not open that hatch? DO the batteries need hooked up for this to work? I would imagine that is how they shut the hatch wheneve they unhooked the negatives. Any thoughts why the backfeed doesn't work? We were using a brand new battery and my understanding is they tried to backfeed it before the transport guy left and had no luck?

Unrelated, i opened the hatch again later just too look around. With the key out of the ignition and the hatch open, I culd here a faint ticking noise comig from nea the bildge pump. Siilar to a clock tick but sightly faster or similar to the sound an ignitor makes on a gas grill. Any ideas what that may be?

Thank you.

Was the battery switch on when you were trying to back feed voltage? Was the switch/fuse for that outlet turned on?

If your charger is a charger/converter, you should be able to plug shorepower in and energize the charger/converter circuit to power up the hatch motor.

With the negatives off the batteries, you can have the battery switch on or off makes no difference. If you are in a situation where the batteries are hooked up and dead, then you want to leave the battery switch off. If you don't you will try to lift the hatch and charge the dead battery and it won't work.

Not sure exactly what you are using to plug into the 12V receptacle but unscrew the tip of the 12V plug on the adapter and check to see if there is a fuse in there. I've blown that fuse many times trying to get my hatch up via this method. I have a 10A fuse in there now which does the trick as long as the batteries are disconnected.

Thank you for the replies. The battery switch was on both when we were trying I believe. The 12v cord I was using was one that came with the boat. I took it out of the package, it had never been used before ( the boat was bought new last year by PO). I wonder if it wasn't working beause the switch was on and the positive terminals were connected? Iam a novice but the marina that stored it for the winter and marine max (broker) both had guys working on it and couln't come up with anything...

Any ideas on the clicking sound in engine compartment with ignition off?

Is the cig lighter on the same battery bank as the engine hatch? If it is.....that should have worked if the amp draw didn't pop a fuse. If it isn't on the same bank then it would not have worked. In regards to the ticking. I can hear my helm clock ticking when I am in the bilge also my charger clicks relays when it is charging different battery banks. Other than that, does it happen constantly or under certain conditions?

Was it a relatively fast paced clicking - at least a few clicks a second? Sounds like maybe you're depthfinder was on. The transducer will make that noise.

Got a closer look/listen last night. It does seem to be the depthfinder. My concern it seems to be on even when the boat and the raymarine unit are off?

There's a depth readout built-in to the Smartcraft tach gauge. I "think" that the Ray reads from the same transducer, but I'm not completely positive on that - I could be wrong and there could be a separate ducer for it (does the Ray show a depth function?). If your gauges are on, then the ducer may still be functioning to provide a reading to the SC gauge.

If you're sure that EVERYTHING is off, then it should definitely not be on.

We`re back to the woulda, coulda, shoulda. Cig lighter fuses, batteries disconnected. AC charger with a blown fuse or turned off. Save yourself the aggravation .Hard wire a new feed to the relays or motors and leave a cord with a plug in a convenient location.
