Guys, it's good to be back. Did the whole Costa Rican rainforest thing. Was hoping to catch a nice roster fish. Turns out the rainy season didn't cooperate and my time was spent avoiding bushmasters and monkeys in the jungle rather than plying the waters of the Golfo Dulce.

Then it was to the Keys to chase the elusive bonefish. The bonefish were elusive, the barracudas and jacks not so much so all was good. Another day was spent chasing snapper and shark. Good God do I love clear water.

Anyway, quick question I am looking at an MSRP of 185k and they are coming down to 153k plus top book on my boat. Thoughts on about 18% below book for a starting point? This is figuring in the expected SR incentive o $7500 kicking in next month.

Yes, I've always screamed about going new, but things are looking good and I like the seacores.

Thoughts?

Top book wholesale or retail? If its a 2007 you're buying and wholesale book value for your boat, I think you are getting hosed. Even if its a 2008, there is a lot of room for negotiation IMO.

08 290 Sunsport, all options except the $3000 stereo upgrade, with the twin 350 mag seacore system.

So am being offered approx 18% off MSRP plus about $2k less on my trade than I could feasible get in a private party sell.

Is 20% off msrp in the ballpark, or should I keep pushing? Keep in mind this is factoring in the anticipated SR incentive.

Geez. . .I would have thought you could get 30%+ *in december* for this type of boat.

$150K for a bowrider is a pretty big bill. BUT. . I admit that I am talking out of my rear. There are others more knowledgable than I on this board.

Ryan,
If you're serious aim really low, like Comsnark said, in December what can they say, NO? Factor in the incentive which usually arrives in early Jan and let them know your offer is to include the upcoming incentives bracketed for the category of the boat you're looking at.
In my recent boat (albeit used) purchased, I factored in a list of repairs and costs to restore this boat I aimed low on my bid, got my price and now am poised to restore it how it should have been maintained.
Best of luck

i agree. Aim low...really low.
Marine max is on the verge of bankruptcy and NO boats move in December.
You have all the negotiating power. If they don't bite, another dealer will.

Who is Marine Max?

Don't forget you can also negotiate the 50 and 100 hour service into the deal, which will not really cost the dealership anything significant, since their mechanics are salaried, and the part costs are negligable.

I'm sure they would be very excited to sell a boat in December. I imagine that they still make money at a 30% discount.

Did I miss something, I thought we were talking about a 290 Sun Sport? Is this one they've got on the yard, or is it something they are waiting for delivery on? I know when I was at the factory, SeaRay said they only make a couple a month of the 290SS. I'm sure with the way the economy has changed in the last couple months SeaRay has cut the production on them even more. Based on MM site there is only 4 2008 290s, but they still have 6 new 2007 290s in stock. Looks like there is only one 290SS in FL. I know MM Pensacola had a deal on an almost new 2007 290SS I was told you could get it for below a 100K. It

I have been watching the 290 Bowriders (select and EX) since late summer. Of the ones I am watching only one has sold. I have called on several of them and the MM dealerships do not seem to care if they sell them or not as getting information on them has been difficult. The private sellars all are upside down and can't get out from under them because of what they owe.

Buy on your terms only!!! I will.

My bad: I misread the post regarding SD vs EX.

$150K for a SS is bit more logical than for a EX. . .but is still WAY expensive. All these boats are selling like ice cubes in a blizzard.

Nobody else is shopping for these boats until February -> and even then they don't sell quick. Negotiate like the boat will be a left over in six months.

Dang. Under $100K for a 2007 290SS? Hmmmm. . . makes me think of upgrading :)

Under 100k for an 07? I know they just moved an 07 w/ 7hrs up here, but asking was 149k, don't know what it was out the door, but much less than that as that is close to where they are on the new 08. I'm also looking at a used 04 w/ about 170 hours. Asking 95k and he's holding more solid than I think he needs to.

Told him I'd give him 90k if he takes the 240 SD in at 35k trade.

Just curious where this info on Marine Max comes from? Has there been articles in the news regarding thier "pending bankruptcy"?
