Azimut / MarineMax Owner's Experience Video

That was interesting. articulate, and to the point. My favorite part was the repair to the wrong engine in the yard. I always figured Azimut had a good product. They sell quite a few of these so cal. I have 2 within a couple hundred feet away.

The extent of the shoddy workmanship on this boat is appalling, but repairing the wrong engine is like removing the wrong tooth or amputating the wrong leg.

Boating in Italy, I have some experience with Azimut boats, being friends, slip neigboroughs or talks at the boatyard... Quality is not their strong point...I have personally seen any kind of problems from holes in the hull, to falling furniture.I have seen handrails fixed with self tapping screws and a/c water pumps not with proper strainer but simple freshwater filters. Double clamping is often a chimera...not to say about radars pointing directly at the pilot's head... You cannot imagine how many Azimut owner told me how wright I was restoring my old american piece of fiberglass..it's true that any boat has problems, but these Italian artifacts really looks dull after a few years, and it means something....

Curious, the Sea Ray comments at the end... How does that tie into his story?

I'm also confused about the Sea Ray CEO's comments and how they're pertain to this gentleman's experience.

But, WOW!, what a cluster. You know he must have tried to get some compensation for loss of use and probably got turned down. He waited until all his final warranty service was completed and let them have it. Good for him.

The dealerships emails regarding the availability of their single tech and his focus only on new sales let's you know exactly what they're all about.

I think the OP was saying "I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A SEARAY...!!!!"

So, if you are a boat manufacturer - and a video like this shows up on the internet - What do you do?

How do you respond?

Do you respond?

Do you think this will have sales impact?

Will competitors use this?

Throughout the video he is giving facts to avoid slander or lawsuit, but in reality he is pissing all over Azimut by simply stating what happened factually. He makes it all about "things that could happen when you buy a new boat" without specifically being the one to say a new Azimut. He makes a point about complimenting the design and saying things were fixed, but makes his point by the very long list of issues. The MM comment at the end is his way of taking a parting shot by making it clear he wishes he went for the Sea Ray that no doubt he compared to the Azimut. Its beautiful!

Wow. Even the list on my 18 year old vessel pales to his. Makes me appreciate my Sea Ray even more.

It is very interesting how he approached the issues. I bought a new boat (which has worked out great so far) so I was curious to see how he could do this without ending up in court. He is likely an attorney, or did it with the assistance of one. Either way, I give him props for doing it. He's got guts.

Azimut won't respond publicly. If anything they'll offer to buy this guys boat back.
MM won't say anything publicly.

Other manufacturers already know Azimut. This is probably not a surprise. Could you imagine SR disparaging another brand? No, they'll just point out what makes their boats great.

What I think this video will do is convince some buyers in this price point to look elsewhere. Damage done.

I think he used the MM CEO's statement simply to imply that Azimut's own MM dealer network prefers SR over Azimut.

Wow, gotta luv this guy (who I think's a fellow Brit) for being a really cool customer on the video while he must have been seething on the inside! Had to smile how he keeps mentioning the beautiful design when all the time underlining the terrible shoddy workmanship:) Also, when he mentioned "best practices", didn't know they had any in some/most marine businesses:) We bought a new boat once, never again! Good on him for going to all that trouble "very carefully". Perhaps some of these boat manufacturers may take note, especially Azimut. Pleased we have a proven SeaRay:)

The thing you need to keep in mind is that this fellow was probably led to Azimut by Marine Max, who is his local dealer for both Sea Ray and Azimut. And, MM is very quick to tell you that they prefer to sell Azimuts over Sea Rays because they make more margin in Azimuts. Unfortunately, the notion of selling boats without providing service or warranty repairs appears to be the standard for MM in some locations, but I cannot believe that Sea Ray would tolerate selling boats without even doing a PDI (predelivery inspection) or providing service very long.

Unbelievable! Fortunately Azimuth doesn't manufacture airplanes! They don't right? :wow:

I cant believe his first year owning the boat and it was out of service for a thre months,

I wonder if he did the video all in one take
