After several months the Axius system is finally working on our boat. I will add to no fault of the marina performing the work; but never less it is finally fully functional.

When we purchased the 2011, Sundancer 310, there was a compass installation error detected by the Vessel View. Our marina, a Mercruiser authorized repair dealer, was working with Mercruiser to fix the problem and have spent many hours attempting correct the issue.

It seems it was more than just the IMU (compass) that was keeping the Axius system from properly functioning.

They were first asked to update the software in which they discovered that the Axius’s GPS antenna was not working and was replaced. After the replacement of the GPS antenna the wrong “vessel personality” software was supplied and so the Sky Hook would not operate.

Mercruiser then sent the correct “vessel personality”software and then behold the IMU, (which if you recall was the original error)was still displaying the IMU fault. Finally the IMU was replaced, and the system is finally working as advertised.

The lack of a functional Axius was really a blessing. It forced me to learn, relay on, and become proficient in maneuvering a dual screw vessel with throttle controls only. If I may say with some instruction from a close friend I am pretty damn good at it now:smt038.

Mercruiser was on top of each issue sending what was required without hesitation. But with all these extremely high tech gadgets it looks like trial and error is still the only way to track down a problem. It never stopped us from enjoying the boat, we have made numerous trips to Block Island RI, Greenport NY, and now getting ready for our first week long trip (Newport-Cuttyhunk-Block Island).

See you all on the water!

Glad to hear things are "finally working as advertised". I am also glad to hear that Mercruiser was on top of things.

My question, if you don't mind is... Were all these systems functioning at the time of purchase?

The boat was purchased used, from an independent non Searay dealer. They were aware of the issues at the time we took delivery and are covering what ever the warranty does not.
