The axius is a drive system that uses jets to dock the boat.

It can actually move the boat sideways.

Does anyone have any experience owning one on one of the 300 SLX boats?

Axius does not use jets to move the boat it uses articulating stern drives that move independently of each other.

If you can afford the option I would get it. I don't have it but I see plenty of models with and without it. The end result is it will help a beginer dock like a pro. I see a lot of new multi engine boat owners struggle to control their vessel while docking even with a thruster but I never see an axius powered boat have problems.

Still cheaper to get the bow thruster you were thinking about.......that said the axius system is pretty cool - I got to try a 33DA with it extensively at a demo day - the system did have some teething problems but they seem to have figured it out now. as others have said it uses regular Bravo III drives, the only difference is the "control" you have a joystick available at low speeds that uses a "computer" to control the drives independantly (including steering, thrust, and direction) to put you where you want to go.

The problem that I see with the Axius system is the noises that it makes. A Sea Ray is almost totally silent in running except of course the engine. The Axius makes some moans and creaks that sound like it is stretching or someother painful thing.

I did not know that it worked by turning the engines (reticulating). Does that make the engines lower in the water, or less able to be raised up? It certainly does not seem worth $55,000.

I think I will wait for a boat show and get a 300 SLX for a discount. The cost for the boat I had in mind was 175,000 for a 2010. That figures to be about the cost of a brand new boat less 50,000. I think that is too much.

steve

Many thanks for your advice.

Axuis uses indepenent shifting and steering of the outdrives to perform the task. It uses opposing force of the drives at countless different angles to move the boat. The engines work the same as they do on any other boat. The engines throttle according to what the computer tells them to do.

The only thing that scares me a bit is the constant shifting of the drives. The result is amazing though. I guess time will tell how much harder it is on the drives.
