Automatic Halon System Light Off - only for starboard engine start

I recently started my starboard engine and heard an alarm that beeped twice and noticed that the automatic halon system light was off (usually is on if everything is ok). When I started the port engine, the light came on with no alarm. I checked the fire extinguisher and it was still in the green portion of the charge indicator.

My question:

Where is halon system wired to the ignition for the starboard and port engines?

I think it's just a loose or corroded wire somewhere, because the system is charged and the port engine does not trigger the alarm. I just can't figure out where the system ties into the ignitions.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All,

After a 1 minute conversation with a Tom Turner, a marine tech from Shady Side SeaRay in Shady Side, MD, he concluded that the alarm that I was hearing was a "soft engine alarm" possibly associated with the IAC. He asked if the alarm was a two beep alarm that reoccurred every 30-60 secs. That's exactly what it sounded like.

He said that the halon system light is connected only to the port ignition. It's not connected to the starboard ignition at all. Hence, why the light does not light up when starting the starboard engine.

I had never heard this alarm before, and all my gauges were reading perfect parameters. So, I had thought it was related to something other than the engine. In any case, the "soft engine alarm" comes from the computer sensing incorrect values from various parts of the engine, but this one is thought to be from the IAC. It's interesting to me, because I've had IACs just outright fail, but have never heard any alarm relating to the parameters that the computer was reading.

Hope this thread helps everyone.

I was just taking the boat to winterize, and when I was ten minutes away from the marina, the HALON system alarm started beeping. I slowed to a halt, shut the engines and anchored.
Looked at the engine room, and everything seemed perfectly fine.
No smells, no smoke, the gauges were reading fine up to that point. Both engines were running at 170F, and the oil pressured was good.

‘anyhow, tried to start again, and the port engine started, but the alarm started beeping. The starboard engine wouldn’t even make a sound. Didn’t turn at all. As if it wasn’t there.
Ended up getting towed (BoatUs....totally recommend them).
I’m optimistic and hope it’s a fuse or bad connection...
Anyone have had this issue?
‘wish me luck!
Thanks.
