Hi guys, it took me a long day so I thought I would share the story.
Symptoms - when on AC the hot water heater in my 2005 320Da would start OK. Heat the water just warm then stop heating. Tried the mixer valve, no luck. The thermostat was closed circuit and there was power on the Heayer element meaning the safety trip switch was ok.
So it turns out - the trip switch was damaged, when it heated up it would go open circuit - as soon as it cooled down the circuit would close. It was not tripping which is weird a- it seems like it is burnt inside or something.
Looks pretty messy.
So I ordered a new part from Fleabay. Atwood 90037 Water Heater ECO Thermostat 110 VAC. $13.00
Should be an easy fix, but boy it took a lot of hunting down.
