Anyone have any experience with replacing the Atwood 6 gal water heater in a 310 DA? Mine is a 2000 and the engine spaces are very tight. I'm interested to know what I have to take apart in order to get the old water heater out and the new one in.

I have a 280 but I did mine when I was redoing the risers/manifolds. I had to move the batteries and the trim pump as well to get it out. There are two screws on the back of it and they are a ***** to get out.

the 310 is a little different. The water heater is on the port side behind the vacuum flush generator and holding tank. It is under the port exhaust pipe next to the water lift muffler. I was hoping if removal of the aluminum extrusion that supports the port and center hatched would allow me to sneak it out without removing the exhaust pipe

Why are you replacing it?
Mine didn't work when i bought my boat in October. (original Heater)
It only needed a $22.00 heater element.
I also replaced the thermostats for $12.00
Works great now.
I see you have Horizon motors so you have coolant going thru the heat exchanger not salt water.
You can probably repair it.

cfd95. I've a 2000 340 with my heater in a similar location. I've already purchased the heating element. Is it difficult to get to? Thanks.

It's not hard to do.
Hardest part was getting side cover off (bottom bolt)
You have to unscrew mounting bracket from bilge floor to get element out 2 bottom bolts on element hold this bracket.
I pulled up on heater and placed a small piece of 2x4 under it to hold unit up.
Just take a pic of the wiring before you undo it.
I would do the thermostats too while you have it opened they're right above element.
I think i paid 34.00 for element and thermostats.
