Atlantic City/Trump Marina/Golden Nugget - Avoid at all costs

Guys,
I think what Rick said before is a wise course. Give them a chance to prove that maybe what happened was an aberration. We've all screwed up at our job at one point or another. Who wants to be fired or lambasted on the internet for what may have been one transgression? This group has been to Farley in 2009 and 2010, I've been there 4 other times and many of the core group from NJ makes it a fairly regular destination, and I've never heard of any problems like this. As a business owner, I know I'd want a second chance.

It's been over a month since that article was written and by Gary's accounts, nothing has changed. Good luck!

I think that all of us who have been there before realize that Trump was not spending a penny on maintenance of the facility because he was trying to dump it. So, it is not exactly as glamorous as they say it used to be. So, we didn't/don't expect a five star facility.

However, weeds growing out of the dock and loose boards popping up are something that anyone can take care of. Landry's/Golden Nugget has been in charge for 30 days or so. That is not a lot of time to acclimate oneself, but, it is enough time to slip up to Home Depot and buy some nails and a pair of weed pulling gloves.

The CEO of Landry's says he is going to sink 100 million or so in the facility. If that is true, then in the next 12 months we should see some marked improvements very rapidly.

However, a poor staff attitude and indifference of the staff to the folks bringing their money in the door is a different story. The person that interacted with Gary had an indifferent attitude about his trouble with the electrical, going so far as to suggest that Gary broke the electricty. I don't know what we all will spend in $$$$ this coming weekend at the facility, but, if the service is not reasonably accomodating, then next year's get together (35 boats/125 or so people) will most certainly be at someone else's facility.

Gary has already told 12,000 people via this thread in this forum of his bad experience. That is NOT the way to win friends in a boating community when you provide services to boaters.

Ron had a conversation with the new guy and is satisifed that he will do everything he can to make sure we stay happy. I'll have to give the guy a chance to do what he says. IF he does not/can not/will not, then he lost 125 customers all at one time. That might be some sort of Guiness World Record.

We shall see...

In case anyone cares, myself and at least 3 others are planning on setting sail at 0700 on Friday. I'm not sure if anyone plans on rendezvousing off of Good Luck Point, but we plan on plodding onward. Doesn't make sense for my since I'm the slowest - everyone just blows by me eventually anyway!

I will be taking the inside route down along LBI to Little Egg Inlet and heading out there for the final 10 miles or so on the mighty Atlantic. I know one year we had "Team Ocean" and "Team Inside" but I'm going to let you all figure that one out.

If anyone is looking for company on the ride start posting here.

We stayed at Farley State last night and had not problems with power on H Dock. Is the place a dump? No, but like the rest of Atlantic City it has seen better times (much better times!). The only problem we had was hailing the marina on Saturday afternoon on VHF Ch 16/65 for our slip assignment so I called them by phone. We probably won't go back, primarily due to the loud music and the drunks on the dock.

Ron,

That's a good remider to all, but I think we should do it in the other thread which is dedicated for the event. Otherwise it may become confusing for some folks between these two threads.

I just saw your post there, so never mind.

Just read this thread really interesting sounds like a nightmare just some thoughts about it why should anybody pay their hard earned money for a horrible experience US companies used to have pride in all aspects of business now all that matters is that quarterly wall street report sc*** the customer he's never right. Sadly a lot of the business world has lost any pride in what made this country great all that is built here anymore is warehouses to store imported cheap crap to walmart on hiways that are crumbling it's really sad to see what we're leaving our grandchildren. I don't need anymore tax cuts I want to see corporations out of goverment not pay a toll booth to drive on a freeway full of pot holes, 100 year old sewer pipes, crumbling water lines, etc.
I recently had a minor problem at a gas dock they called a mechanic down to look at it he asked if I had a 1/2" wrench when I pulled out my tool box he said crap you have more tools aboard than I own ( including a volt meter ).
Just a Monday morning thought after taking care of our grandchild wondering what his future will be like a race to the bottom or ?

Going from Toms River to AC Aug. 26,2011 would like to follow others, first trip for me 24Ft Sundeck, any ideas

I was just at the Golden Nugget/Trump Marina for two days this past week on E-dock. I had no issues whatsoever with the dock, electric, weeds growing up through the dock, etc. I don't know if they addressed some of Gary's concerns, but again, we had no issues this past week.

For you specific trip, I would go out Little Egg Inlet if the weather is cooperating and head down for a quick ocean ride. If the weather doesn't look good, the route through the intercoastal for your boat should be no issue. Just be sure to stay in the center of the channel. When in doubt, look behind you and in front of you to observe the markers.

Doug
