is there any good areads around the atlanta area to go boating?

Hey Capt_Jack,

If I remember correctly you are from FL are you going to be trailering your boat up this way? North GA has some great boating.
Just north of Atlanta is Lake Lanier Biggest and busiest. Just north west of Atlanta would be Lake Allatoona. Plus there is a bunch of smaller lakes some really good mountains ones about 2 hours north of Atlanta. When are you going to be in the area? Tell me a little bit more about your trip.

well I am just checking out the situation because we may be relocating to somewhere around 30 minutes outside of atlanta, location unknown yet though. So it would be nice to know if there is anywhere we can get some good boating in!

Good luck on the Relocation. Keep us posted on where you end up.

Check this out, they have some pretty good links to the area around lake lanier. It is 40 miles northeast of Atlanta, but then again everything is 40 miles away from Atlanta...

Great place to stay and you can launch your boat and keep it right behind a rental lakehouse at their dock. While you look for a house.

Best of luck...

Dan

yea i was lookin at lake lanier, looks pretty nice. Now i just have to figure out where i want to live :x. i want to be within around 30 minutes outside the city but dont wanna go too far south that it makes the drive to lake lanier farther.

Lanier is a great lake during the week, but I would not want to be on it during the weekend in your boat. It's bad enough in our 240SD :smt100

The south end is very rough and crowded.

I can confirm what Chuck is saying. I have a 240 Dancer and I wouldn't want to be in anything smaller on the lake. The Southern end is where Buford Dam, Baldridge Marina, Holiday Marina, Lazy Days Marina, Aqualand Marina, and to a certain extent, Starboard Marina (my home) all dump out into the Lake. You get what's called a washing machine effect in the Southern main body from all this activity on the weekends.

However, the lake is known for it's beautiful green waters, is beautifully maintained by the COE with tons of coves to drop anchor in and hang out and float. Head North for quiet waters and fishing, head to Lake Lanier Islands and "Cocktail Cove" if you are up for a weekend of debauchery.

We play in Lake Lanier as well. Can someone tells me where is this "Cocktail Cove".
And ditto on the South end of the lake. Very rough until you get past Browns Bridge.

It's on the west side of the Lake Lainer Islands

cocktail cove

Thanks for the pic chuck1. I've seen those boats in the cove before but didn't know what was going on down there. I just might have to pull over one weekend and say howdy to all the rowdies.
