My friend, fellow Sea Ray owner and slip neighbor have decided to do a boy's trip and head to the Atlanta show in a couple of weeks.

I've read Sea Ray is scheduled to have the "world premiere" of their new SLX-W model there. I'm guessing Sea Ray might have some special, perhaps private events for this new model. Anybody heard of anything or know how to get invited to, or crash the party??

Also if anybody has any recommendations for places to hang out in Atlanta let me know. I'm thinking a nice cigar friendly bar and/or great steakhouse!

New York Prime in Buckhead is the place to go for great prime steaks and cigar friendly. I was at the New York Prime in Myrtle Beach last week. Sparked up a big La Gloria Series R after dinner. So rare to be able to do that these days.

Most private showings and events are by invitation from your dealer. Ask your dealer to get you an invitation. That is Marine Max territory so expect your dealer to get the run around if it is not MM.

Glad to hear there's a NY Prime. We go to Myrtle at least once a year and it's always on the schedule for at least one night!
Thanks for the info.

Well Steve, it should sure as hell be warmer than the boat show in Cleveland!

We used to live in Atlanta, wife grew up there. I've never been to the boat show there, so can't speak to that. As far as steaks, we always liked Bones Piedmont Rd, Buckhead. Another nice one is 103 West, West Paces Ferry Rd, Buckhead. These are two of the old local places that have stood the test of time. I am sure there are lots of new places. Also, since you are going to be downtown for the boat show, if you have never been you have to grab a burger at the Varsity - it's an Atlanta tradition. That's about all I can offer, we haven't lived there in a long time, I think it has changed a lot, but in the day we lived in town and enjoyed all the dining and night life in Buckhead and Virginia Highlands. Go up to Lake Lanier if you get a change - a couple of big marinas to wander around. We kept a boat in dry storage at Holiday Marina.

The Atlanta Boat show is mostly lake boat stuff if that matters.

+1!

All runabouts, pontoons, and wake board boats. There are 2-SR dealers local. MM in Cumming, GA and MM in Buford, GA.

They will have at most 2 DAs and the line to board them will be way long....

MM in Cumming, Ga has a fair amount of inventory in the water at Bald Ridge Marina.

I have heard the in-water show in Charleston, SC is pretty good.....lots of cruisers and yachts.....we plan to go this year to check it out....the Charlotte, NC show is all lake stuff as well......and lots of good eats and entertainment in Charleston.....my son and family live there so we go there often.....

Thanks guys for the info. As some of you have obviously read, at one point the plan was to go to the Cleveland show. But we opted for warmer weather and it looks like the Atlanta show is bigger, too.

The focus on lake boats is good for us because that's what we do!!

We're heading down Thursday and were planning on coming home Saturday morning, but now we're trying to decide if we hang around long enough to go to the Falcons playoff game Saturday afternoon!

Hey Cliff-

When is the in-water show in Charleston?

Thanks,
Bennett

Just my 2 cents....
A MUST...Do the boat show Friday morning and avoid crowds (and children).
Circa 2009 the show had more cruiser friendly stuff but it has indeed turned more towards water sports.

One year the indoor wake boarding exhibition LEAKED. Water covered the place Thursday night. By Friday morning all was good but the extremely loud exhibit ruined the atmosphere.

As for the Falcons game....Since you trip is all guys, I guess it would be ok (IF you want to pay the price). That part of Atlanta isnt where I'd like to take my wife on a Saturday night.

I have a small boat company (Aqua Cycle Pontoon Pedal Boats, Ultraskiffs, Hydrobikes and Pond King Pontoon Boats) and we exhibit at the Atlanta Boat Show .... 5 years running. I can speak with a bit of experience. Thursday and Friday are far less crowded. I actually sell more boats on those two days than Saturday / Sunday. Weekends are lots of Kids. Sunday will be loaded with Falcon's fans coming to the boat show before the game. Most of them are not really boaters.

The Atlanta show is, for the most part, a wakeboard boat and Pontoon boat affair... with some sport boats. It does not seem to change much from year to year. As stated somewhere else, Marine Max will have a Dancer or two. Have fun! Stop by booth J46 - Leisure Lifestyle Products -- ask for Rob and introduce yourself!

Rob- We plan to be at the show on Thursday and Friday so we'll certainly stop by and say hello! Thanks for the invite. (FYI, looks like the Falcons game is going to be on Saturday)
