Went to Dog Island this weekend. Lots of boats and we were going to stay for the day and maybe night. Started the gen set and were asked if we could move the boat because of the noise it made. I have wondered about the noise from the 3600rpm gen sets but had never been asked to move away from the crowd. Certainly a little embarressing!
Has anyone tried the exhaust silencer from K&B! Did it help?

Yea you're right Frank. It wasn't as load as the Poker run boats either. Anyway it was all in all a beautiful day! I just need to do something with this 3800rpm screamer.

I have found it is generally those who do not have a generator of their own to use that have a problem with other's using theirs. :)

You may want to PM MonacoMike. He installed a new genny exhaust silencer last fall and may be able to offer some advice.

If it's been a while since you changed the impeller in your generator, you might try that. I changed mine once in another boat, and couldn't believe how quiet it was. Seemed the new impeller moved much more water than the old worn one, and the result was much quieter.

I have heard that in anchorages or mooring fields where most of the boats are sailboats, but not at a dock. Why did you just not plug in? Sailboaters are very earthy (not saying in a bad way) when it comes to the natural beauty and silence at anchor......I respect their space when selecting a spot to anchor....

Set a Honda on the flybridge. All kidding aside sounds like it may be time for a new impeller. While you can hear the Kohler running it isn't that loud. But the biggest complaint is the exhaust fumes from a generator.

Never heard anyone complain about noise. CO poisoning, yes. Noise, never!

I am always respectful of others space, noise levels, etc. I was a sailboat owner many years ago, so I understand their persective on noise and do try to keep a distance when anchoring next to them, and only run genny when needed. But in SD, we have about 20 sail boats who's owners essentially dont work, and they move between the two main anchorages. Gas cans tied to the deck, old bikes, you get the picture. What gets me is the hostile stares from some of these guys when I am anchoring. I had one guy a few months ago standing on his bow running his mouth on a windy day when i was having trouble to setting the hook. I had my kids with me, so it took every ounce of restraint i had from yelling back. On a postive note, took a vaction day, and i am on the boat as i write this. Sunny, 70F - beautiful day.

We don't anchor near others unless rafting with friends......like our privacy and our music, Mike.

I was anchored near a guy one time and he kept telling me that my generator was causing his CO detector to go off. I kept telling him that it wasn't my genearator because mine was diesel(hope that is correct). Regardless, he refused to listen to me and was getting quite irate. After a couple hours, I heard a high squeal and then I heard him say, "there it goes again". I told him that the sound he was hearing was the sound my kids Jet Ski was making every time the Key was inserted prior to starting. You should have seen the look on his face. Better yet, you should of heard the tongue lashing his wife laid on him. Hilarious.
