Arrgghhh! August 9-10 Pirates in Rock Hall

Arghhhh, that looks like fun! Wish I'd known about it earlier, I'd maybe grab my wench and we'd fly down and join in! Tampa has a Pirates Week earlier in the year that also looks like fun! I just missed it last time I was there, but that's another one I'd like to do. I'm sure there are more around. Arghhhh!

Apparently the wench and I are developing a pirate theme. We went to Gasparilla, the pirate festival in Tampa. FUN, FUN, FUN! I highly reccomend it to anyone that enjoys pirates, parades, beads and beer. Where we were it was PG-13. Beads were thrown freely and did not need to be "earned" although some were. Loads of fun and highly recommended.

Seconded on the Sailing Emporium...though there really are a lot of blow boats there, the marina itself is very nice and well maintained. They have bikes you can borrow to ride into "town" or you can hop on the trolley which stops there.

Rebbel Yell, Sea:/Drive and Harper's Ferry are booked at the Sailing Emporium for the festivities. Looking forward to this as Rock Hall puts on a fun party with small town hospitality.

If you are looking for a marina, don't overlook Lankford Bay. It's up the Chester River a little bit but real close to Rock Hall. The Rock Hall Trolley stops there whenever asked to. Real nice, quite, family run. Really good ship's store for parts and supplies. If you come, say hello (slip 25).

Has anyone ever anchored out in Rock Hall Harbor for the night? I know the harbor is REAL shallow but I noticed a lot of boats on the hook for July 3rd fireworks. What's the official rules for this harbor?

An alternative anchor place is Swan Creek. Get's crowded but real nice.

Rock Hall is Home Port for us. We are on Swan Creek at Haven Harbour. We'd love to meet up with anyone thats coming over. Also, there is a lot of room in Swan Creek to drop anchor. As long as you dont need real deep water there is plenty of 4'-6' anchorage.

Assuming you don't want to anchor in the channel, and that you draw more than 2 1/2 feet, there are precious few spots you can safely anchor in the harbor. The best spot would be around past Waterman's and past the Sailing Emporium fuel dock and in front of the blue condos there. Although tight, that spot is very well protected and can accommodate 2-3 boats safely. People will look at you a little funny, but it is definitely doable. On July 3rd (fireworks night) I have seen up to a dozen boats back there.

Not sure if we'll be able to make it - does sound like a lot of fun. Are there launch ramps either in town or at one of the nearby marinas?

I beleive that ramp still needs a county launch permit that is $10.00 and good for 3 days. The fine is like $100.00 if caught without it. Sandy Point State park has great ramp to launch and its not a long ride to Rock Hall. It would also save an hours drive in the car if you are coming from the western side of the bay.

OOPS!! Didn't know that. Thanks for setting it straight before I owed tdappleman a c-note.

I've tied up overnight at the bulkhead in the Rock Hall Harbor but I'd encourage you to bring plenty of bumpers. There are no amenities but its free and you're within walking distance of Waterman's and the Harbor Shack. It might be all taken up this weekend with the Pirate festivities though

Swan Creek would be your best bet. Lots of room and you can grab the trolly over to the other side or it's a 15 min walk. My boat sits in Haven Harbor right where everyone docks their dingys. I'd love to meet up with some of you, but my boat will be on Swan Creek and we will be walking or driving around town. We'd even be happy to taxi some of you around in the van if we meet up. Anyone interested, I'll PM you my cellphone.

Although we missed the festivities due to a previously scheduled day trip, it looks like this first annual event may become a tradition.

Quite the turnout!

That explains it! Yesterday I was driving home from the marina and noticed the people in the turning lane next to me were dressed like pirates...
