I had my salon table top setting on the v-berth mattress upside down, with the pole installed. In a complete bone-head moment, I lifted it by the pole, which of course came free of the table top as I started lifting it, and promptly slammed into the headliner. It left a small tear. I was so mad at myself, I almost wished it had smacked me in the forehead instead!

I don't want to replace the entire headliner. The spot is not obvious - but I don't want it to get any bigger either. Is there a vinyl repair that can be made? I seem to remember something from somewhere about a thick liquid repair for this type of issue...

Anyone with recommendations or experience?

MM had to do a couple of vinyl repairs last summer before I would take delivery on my new to me 380. Can't even locate them now. IMO let the pros handle it, by the way auto detailers do the same work and may come to you.

I have not used the VLP product but I have attempted to patch using similar product. If the rip is small it can be done to look OK but I would suggest letting a pro take a look first and see what the cost to repair would be.

I've used the VLP products with good success. The key is to do small sections at a time, using masking tape to hold the rip closed while you glue on either side of the tape. Then keep moving the tape and repeating until done.

Thanks guys for the feedback. There is a Fibrenew in my area that I will look into. This is a very small (1/2" long) issue. I will also ask my dealer who they use for vinyl repairs, as I'm sure they have someone.

Upscale new car dealers have a contact as well. You can call a BMW or Lexus store and very likely get a good contact who will come to your dock. It will cost around $100 give or take.

Good idea. I'll conveniently (or not) be at the BMW dealer tomorrow, so I can ask my service advisor as well.

Is VLP available locally thru retailers or do you need to buy direct? thanks Rf

Yes, should be able to get it locally - but you'll have to call around and check. Also, John provided a link to an online retailer in post #2. It should be no more than $10 for a tube.

I actually do these repairs ,fibrenew (most) have a good reputation, also mars if there is a local one should be able to help you(thats Minor auto repair services).By the by the upscale dealers use the same guy as a chevy dealer ,ford dealer or dodge dealer.I do interior repairs for them all.I also do paintless dent repair for them all,and fix thier windshield chips on the used car lots .The used car lot at a dealer will have the best guy in my opinion especially if they have certified used cars.I am licensed to run a bussiness for these repairs ,and your repairman should be also.If its not a far drive or hassle for them you may get a break on the price by offering to do some free advertising by word of mouth or just hanging his cards on the board at your marina or marine store.
