Are you getting tired of cleaning your boat?

Jeesh ... that is a long time to wash a little 280

I wash mine once a weekend. First I wash the deck with Starbrite wash & wax, then towel it dry. that takes one to maybe two hours. Then when we are out at our anchorage, I take the wash and wax plus my brush in the water and sitting on a couple of floating spaghettis wash both hull sides. That takes me about 20 minutes per side. After the weekend, I usually vacuum the cabin and we wash and re-treat the carpet runners once a year. That does it for my maintenance. The cockpit never needs cleaning, I just vacuum it once a weekend and wipe it down while we are out ...
Our bilge never gets dirty. I just deep cleaned it once when we got the boat and spent a full day with hose and brush. Greased Lightening is my favorite bilge cleaner.

I wash the 420 weekly, wax the foredeck and transom monthly, and hose it off after we have run in salt if I can't wash right away (like the BiH cruise)
Isenglass monthly with 303
Upholstery as needed with 303
Vacuum the carpet ever time we go out--kids and chips. 'nuff said. Fortunately, the kids like to use the vacuum.

I wash the carpet runners every couple weeks. Kids and chips.

I check all fluid levels weekly, strainers weekly depending on the amount of hydrilla in the water.

My biggest challenges are spiders and birds. And ragboters. But that is a whole 'nother thread.

We wash every Friday using Ivory Soap for dishes. This is a very mild soap that does not strip wax. We use it for seats and eisenglass as well. The boat gets washed using a soft brush on a pole. A little
Soft n' Scrub with bleach is used on tough stains if need be but the sun takes care of most of those. A chamois on a pole is used for wipe down. The boat is 38 feet overall with a hard top and it takes 90 minutes to do a great job. My boat guy charges $80.

When cruising, I start with a clean boat and simply rinse the boat every morning and refill the water tank. Then I chamois the rinse water off and this takes just 20 minutes. The boat stays pristine for a month unless we are slipped next to commercial boats that spew a lot of diesel crap. Then we need to wash again to get the soot off.

I wash my boat every single time i get out of the water.. especially since i only boat in salt water!! Im so scared os salt water destroying my engin.. one time i came home at 2 in the morning from the water and i pulled in the driveway and backwashed out the engin and washed it down... i never leave it out on the street. and before i put it away i allways clean it.. Basically if i go out ten times a week i wash it ten times a week.

Here I thought my last boat, a 240 Sundancer was not a small boat and, well, until this post I thought my 280 WAS a big boat.

I guess its all relative. I think its called the "Johnny Holmes" effect.

I am pretty much the same as "cr0ck1" except for the 2am flushing! I clean the boat (20' 205 Sport) after every use. Since I use it solely in salt water I flush the engine after every use as well. Cleaning consists of soap and water wash by hand using sponges. The entire boat is cleaned this way including upholstery, glass, and exterior. The deck is scrubbed with a deck cleaner (using Starbrite) and a brush. Then the entire boat is dried with soft cloths. We do the vinyl with a cleaner/protectant every 2-3 washes as well as the glass with plexus .

It take us (the wife and I) about 1 1/2 hours from start to finish and this is EVERY time we are done for the day. I definitely can see how some people can get tired of all this cleaning as it kind of puts a damper on the great and tiring day we just had out on the water.

Your welcome to come clean mine

I hate cleaning my boat. The only thing that takes off the black streaks is a cleaner/wax and a week later they are back. What are those darn streaks made of.

Changed my cleaning tactics this year. Wash the entire boat at the end of each weekend, but only fine clean and wax a section at a time, such as the arch one day and then maybe the transom or rails another day. This makes it seem less of a chore and not quite as daunting. The down side is when the whole boat is done, it’s about time to start again.

Also learned that the salt residue from the brackish bay water does show up more noticeably on the blue hull.

Those streaks are air polloution. I am not kidding ... they come from pollutants in our air.
