Are You A Boater?

I find that there is a higher percentage of boaters at yacht clubs than at commercial marinas. They tend to more knowledgeable about using and maintaining their boats.

Hi, I'm Dave, I am a Boater.

I just got my 360 in April and the weather kept me dockside for several weeks (very frustrating), but as the weather began to cooperate, I began to go out every chance I had. One of my first big outings wound up being aligned with Memorial Day weekend and it's about 15 minutes in a no wake zone to get to the inlet. There must have been 20-25 boats heading out in a type of "boat parade". More than half seemed to be owners versus boaters.

Back in the late 90s, I lived on my boat in a marina in Chula Vista. In the slip next to me was a fairly new Sedan Bridge boat of some type. I had been there for nearly a year (Even taking my boat out on week nights just to anchor out!), before I saw the owner of this boat. He fired up the engines, began to wash the boat while his kids played on the dock. After he was done washing, he shut down the engines, buttoned it all up and left. I never saw him again.

maybe 3 kinds.....

I am not a boater yet hold a Master's License and drive brand new yachts four or five days a week, and then my Laguna on the weekends when home. I am an employee and am often called an OPF'er.

Thought I would give you a chuckle this morning.

Have a great day guys!!

Capt., if you're not a boater, then no one is!!!

Last year we did 4 days over xmas on it as well as over New Years. Boating in the snow is beautiful!
Amen to that! Our last cruises of the year are usually the two nights of the Christmas Lighted Boat Parade and the first cruise of the year is on New Year's Day. Many times it has snowed on us while cruising and there is something magic about being on the water in a light snowfall.

What a shame....

Sounds to me like you're bragging, Rusty. I think anyone that delivers new yachts 3-4 days a week qualifies as a BOATER. And if you get tired of that gig, call me....I'd be happy to take over.

I don't like being cold. That, and the rain and constant clouds, were the main reasons I moved away from Seattle 40 years ago. In my opinion snow is for post cards and other people's yards.

Somebody has to boat in the sun year-round....right?

I don't like the cold either. We take off for AZ about mid October, come back for the holidays then take off again right after New Year's Day. No reason for this kid to be in snow.

Our marina is at a massive tourist attraction, so as a result, I've never seen a more active marina as far as people who come and stay on their boats. The flip side is, we have many neighbors who have never been at their own helms! One of these guys was changing his oil a few years ago. My dockmate shouted over, "hey, can I have the oil you just pumped out of your engines?" lol

Come visit me someday Shawn...... you take over and I will go ride the Harley !! lol

Rusty
Rusty, that's been on the list for some time now. You have a deal. With my old 52' CPMY gone I've been missing pushing those big girls around. Since the move from California to the New Orleans area I've been thinking more and more about getting to Florida.

One maybe interesting note.... Don't know if you know him but my '89 340da was originally ordered and owned by Scott Samuelson the owner of Swim Platforms, Inc. Scott was a Sea Ray employee when he ordered the boat.

My name is Christopher and I am a closet boater.

I am only happy when I am working on the boat. If I don't have a project underway then I'm planning the next project (LEDs anyone?). I'm astounded by boat owners who don't know red from green navigation lights, or why they are different colours. I'm shocked when pontoon boats cut in front of me while towing kids on a tube (you know this boat doesn't have brakes, right?). And when people talk about winterizing their boats, I ask myself "Why?".

Time to come out of the closet, Christopher....

That's a great point!

I too stay off the water on holiday weekends. I wouldn't want the Admiral to know this but some of my best days on the boat are when she isn't there. I can tinker and piddle with whatever I want.

Remember Honey....I said SOME....

My wife already knows my best days are rainy days and days she's not there. All the cleaning gets done and all the small things get fixed. I think she loves those same days

I was looking for a hobby and was looking at Golf or Boating. Decided to be a boater since no Boating magazines have Viagra or Cialis adds. Figure that is not an issue for boaters like it is for golfers.

Yes, I am a boater too. I drive through marinas for no reason, just to be around boats. Yes it is a disease, one I have no intention of curing.

Funny about weekends and holidays. My wife and I call them "yahoo days" when all the yahoos go out.

We are certainly capable of avoiding their undeveloped boating skills and etiquette in the river and local haunts, and we do when we go out, but in general we prefer to stay docked with a cocktail and watch "the show" at the launch ramp.

Boating mag ads put in pics of lovely young ladies in tiny bathing suits--accomplishes the same thing.
