Guessing I need to replace the duck bills. Only holds vacuum for about 2-3 min. before turning on again. Sorry for the elementary question, but this is new to me. I'm use to just "hangin' it over the side". From what I have read that they are all the same parts. If so, then I'll just find the appropriate "sticky" and go from there.

The head flushes fine. Just have to turn it on at each use to build vacuum. Or is this the way it's supposed to be?

Thanks in advance'

Steve

I purchased a spare vacu flush pump for my boat. It had the same model number but was newer. It was bigger so I returned it. No idea if the internal parts are the same. I carry spare duck bills and bowl seals. Never hd to put them in. The manual says to flush the system with five gallons. We fill the bowls up and flush about twice a month. I use warm not hot water to flush twice a month.

I tried to look at JediJD's post about changing the duckbills but all I got was this....

It worked for me too.

You gotta pay to play. I just looked at my Avatar and realized my subscription has expired. I need to go re-up my contribution. I believe the link is in the "Club" section where only those contributing can view.

Thanks that was the link I was referring to. Bowl holds water just fine. We do use it for #1. It's just that we have to turn it on each time to build vacuum. If left on the vac pump cycles every 2-3 mins. I thought I should just be able to turn it on upon arriving at the boat, let it build vacuum and hold until each use.

Other than not holding vacuum, it works just fine.

So the duck bills are all the same within manufacturer?

Duckbills are the same. Whether they're the problem, or not, if you don't know how old they are, might as well replace them.

Also check the vacuum switch and various "doughnuts" (rubber grommets) and the associated fittings where they penetrate the vac and holding tanks. Let the vacuum completely build, then put your ear near the different fittings and listen.

Al, good catch. You're right - I think the changeover was about 5 or 6 years ago? If the existing system doesn't look obviously newer, then it is definitely 1-1/2". The original system would have been a separate vac tank and holding tank.

Another thing I would do is take the hose off the inlet to the pump and block it off, then run the system and see if it holds vacuum. If it does the problem is a leak in the hose between the toilet and the tank.

My system would not hold vacuum and I found a leak in the hose between the toilet and pump, the duckbills were OK.

Thanks again for all the info. Will check this in the spring. I just winterized the the water, waste, and hvac. Wasn't going to but the water heater finally sprung a leak (original) and the hvac pump also came up with a small leak. Thinking that one is just a seal.
