We had a blast in Honeycomb Cove Sat. I rafterd up with 13 others. Hundreds of boats rockin'. First bad was a bit lame but the second was excellent. Can't wait to do it again!

This post screams out for pics.

We were there too, rafted up with several friends whom we hadn't seen in years. I heard there were over 200 boats. Guess the weather kept alot of folks from coming out. Turned out to be a great day tho. Yeah, the first band was pretty bad, the drummer was from our marina. Everybody was singling along with the second band, they were great. Erwin Marine sponsored our "Palooza" and all they did was ride around taking pics and throwing "Erwin" t-shirts. We went the day before and picked up our "Aquapalooza" tees and coozies. While there we happened to look thru Erwin's scrapbook and to our surprise there was a whole page of pics of us at the very first "Palooza" back in '06 or '07. And . . . last year, one of those pictures was used on "Erwin's" event flier. Check out www.erwinmarinesales.com and look under the Cruise News tab for Huntsville. They don't have 2010 up yet but other years are up. We didn't take any but our friends did and we will post some here and at Erwins when we get copies.

James or Bama............What time did the second band start? I guess I didn't do enough homework. We had planned to be back to the slip by 8 or so but left much earlier.

The event was somewhat better than last year but in my opinion, organizational skills were weak a the two I've been to.

Kayachtic - I'm not familiar with Raccoon Creek. James is a long time Guntersville boater. He doesn't post much but you can PM him & he'll reply.

Raccoon Creek is way up in Jackson County, closer to the dam at Nickajack in Tenn rather than the Guntersville Dam in AL. Raccoon Crrek is probably 50 miles upstream from the Honeycomb/Guntersville Dam area where Aquapalooza was held. Still all officially in the "Guntersville Lake", though.

I love my lake!

I just know there is a buttload of kelp there. thru down a hook there after dark when bringing our boat back from island cove a few weeks ago. took 2 hours to clean all the strainers & hoses.

pretty area. i posted some pics last week of the gorge, my second trip thru. just as spectacular this time ...

now, signal point marina...i'd stay away from that place...i dont remember, that may not be even close to the guntersville pool.

Yep, stay in the channel unless you know the area very well. BTW, we call it milfoil, not kelp. Makes for great fishing. It gets sprayed every now and then to help with control but still it's a mess if you happen to get into some.

Why would you stay away from Signal Point Marina?

To mwph: The first band scheduled to start at 2pm. They were already going when we got there, heard they'd started at 12:30 so not sure. The second band (their name might have been Playback??) started around 4pm and played till around 8pm. At Erwin's we saw a drawing of how the boats would be rafted up around the band barge, we told them "good luck with that!" And of course, everybody rafted where they wanted to as usual. Aquapalooza is just a good reason to go raft up with friends and other boaters for the day.

To Smilemaker: I'm afraid I have no idea where Racoon Creek is although I have been up to the restaurant at Jackson County Park a few times. Now I know, thanks for the info!

from a distance it looked fine. we pulled up to the fuel dock, no one ever came down to secure a line, pump fuel or anything. so, we tied up & went to the service bldg on the hill to find someone to sell us some fuel. a guy finally came down, had no idea if fuel contained valvetek additives but said they "sell alot of diesel", but he couldn't get the pump to work. another guy had to come down and said the "nail" holding a couple of parts together had been broke for awhile so he would need to go get another nail to repair it. I began to doubt the "sell alot of diesel" claim. and the nail guy said no valvetek in the fuel. been there 40 minutes. we said thanks but we'd just head on down river. then we find out Alreds Marina, just a mile or two away, fuel w/ valavetek is darn near a buck cheaper. just wasnt a good experience.

40dad... just as an fyi. while at Signal Point & Alred you were just a few short miles from the Guntersville dam. I am slipped at Alred. Signal Point is, as you found, is an older marina. They have some friendly slip renters though. Two of which are members here on CSR.

Our Sea Ray dealer is loacated just before the dam. Take note though that if you ever get in a jam while down here they can not pull your boat. Alred can & I'm pretty sure we have a Cat mechanic, not on site but on call. If you ever pass through here we'd be proud to have your boat in one of our transient slips!

Thanks, good info, i appreciate it! I'll make note in the quimby's. you guys definitely have some pretty boating down there and we love the trip. maybe we just caught signal point on a bad day..,they were friendly enough, but we felt it was best to just tip them for their trouble and move on. with a new boat, i wanted to make sure I was getting the freshest/cleanest diesel I could because I was already dealing with some old fuel issues. it all worked out.

My boat is slipped at Signal Pt. is why I asked. Sorry about your bad experience there. Usually those guys are very busy at the gas pump. Our gas is the highest on the lake so we (and others) visit Alred's to buy their cheaper gas and free pump-out w/purchase. Our marina charges $5 for a pump-out even if you buy gas. All pump-outs oughta be free to encourage boaters to use them instead of the lakes. I like the do-it-yourself setup Alred has on their gas dock. However, we heard Signal Point now has new owners (believe it or not, their name is Alred) so "things they may be a changing". We'll see what happens next (especially with the rent - we pay the 2nd highest rent on the lake, I think only the Yacht Club is higher). I hope the new owners will take care of the much needed maintenance, repairs & upgrading at the marina. Most of the docks are in badly need of refloating.

James,
Glad to hear about the new owners. If I remember correctly, the sale itself has taken an awfully long time. Interesting about the name Alred. Don't know if you know it or not but Alred Marina is no longer owned by the Alreds. It was sold many years ago & the current owner just kept the name.

Either way, keep us posted!

Michael

Guy's How was the event down there? I really wanted to go but I was out of town working.

We are realativley new to the area and have not made it down past goose pond. We will be out not this weekend but next are there any good swiming beach spots on the lake down towards the state park?

Town Creek beach just under Hwy 227 bridge is wide, sandy, and weed-free. Buncha beer drinkers by mid-afternoon on weekends usually.

We like Snake Island at mile 367, but the hydrilla is taking over now.

It was a blast wasn't it. I was rafted up next to Star of India, who was raft to Tequila Sunrise, who was rafted to Aces Wild. ...I think you know those folks :) We left about 6. Met some great folks and hope to enjoy more good times like those.

Were you on the end of that raft-up when we were yelling about the snake swimming that way and this guy kept telling us it was a frisbee?

We were sitting on our swim platform dangling our feet in the water when it swam thru right under all our platforms. My Sea Ray was the one on the end (tan tops/black & gold graphics) nearest you guys. One couple swam over and talked to us for a while, don't remember their names but really nice folks. Yeah, over the years we've had some mighty good times with the folks you mentioned. We had intended to tie onto Aces Wild but got there too late. As it happened, some friends from Seibold Marina yelled as we passed their raft-up and it was much easier to maneuver over and tie up with them. Us, the folks in our raft up and most of the folks in your raft-up have known each other for years -we all used to rule the sandbar every Saturday & Sunday way back when.
