Hey all - aquapalooza is at fort desoto this year by the dog beach. It's in July. I can't remember the date - but it's towards the end of the month.

Sign up at www.aquapalooza.com after May 1 to ensure you get t shirts, etc.

Hope to see you there!

I'm registered for Fort Desoto.

hopefully it's better than last years. the food wasn't any good and MM ran out of their as soon as the clouds where threatening to break loose. it was funny all the big boats ran for cover and the small boat stayed.

as I remember it never did really break loose while I was there; just a few sprinkles.

Tom,

We'll be there again..However, it won't be with the 290 SLX. Picked up the new (to us) 06' 340 Sundancer last Friday. It is awesome. Spent the whole Memorial Day Weekend at Caladesi Island. Had a great time. We hope to see you there. Look for "Duke's Rehab".

duke;

huge move duke; congrats on the 340DA. where you out at caladesi for the customer appreciation? I would have never looked for you in a 340DA....

No, wanted to go but was in Las Vegas attending my son's college graduation. I heard it was a bust due to the high winds.

wasn't really that bad. turn out was light and the winds were not as bad as last year. On sunday the opened up the marina to let all the sport boats come into the protected waters their instead of hanging off the hook.

for me it was a pivotal moment as my 5 yr boy spent the night out with me on the boat for the first time. even though he's a bed hog. It was still great.

Reviving this thread from the dead- haven't been to Ft. Desoto before. I'm trying to decide whether to keep it a "day trip", or make it an overnighter. Is there a decent anchorage available *inside* to hang out for the evening?

the location where aquapoloza is, is on an exposed point. lots of shipping traffic coming and going. Normally if folks spend the night on the hock they will motor over to the back side of egmont key. there's protection from wind and waves there and a nice gradual bottom. it will also put you close to the light house and the coast guard pilot station in case there is any trouble.

you will still only be a mile or 2 from the actuall event site.

We're looking forward to this one! Haven't been out for a while now. :(

Our first trip to Caladesi will be next.

You'll love Caladesi :)
Unfortunately, the mosquitos and no-seeums will love you just as much if you go overnight.
Just thought I'd warn you since you haven't been there before. We go frequently (spent three nights over the 4th of July holiday) and often hear other boaters remark that they wish they'd known. Forewarned is forearmed- bug coils, citronella candles and some "Off" and you'll be set. Voted the #1 beach in the US this year- take a walk down to the beach early in the morning before the first ferry arrives- miles of empty beach. Well worth the aggravation of the bugs!

Do the bugs at Caladesi get better after summer? Maybe we'll hold off on that trip. :) Just moved here in Feb. from WI but so far they don't seem much worse here than they were there.

TOBNBR -

We were there too for the 4th..In fact, we're there quite a bit with the new 340. What's the name of your boat? We even went to the Clearwater Bridge to watch the fireworks and came back to Caladesi that night (had to wait for the tide so got back in around 12:30 am).. But we love it there, except for the bugs of course. We've met some great friends there. Hope to see you there soon.

You would have passed me on your way in. I was at the end of the "C" T-dock. I can't get into most of the slips there because of my beam so we got there Wednesday afternoon to be sure we got a spot.

You must have "heard" the new 34' Fountain (with her twin 525's) pulling in next to us- they too went out to see the fireworks and drop some friends off at the ramp. On the way back in he ran her aground on the flats in that section between the Honeymoon Island markers and the Caladesi channel (I get nervous as hell through there myself). Had to wait until sunrise to get enough water to float her out. He told me the bugs killed 'em- boat has AC but no genset. Youch!

Sorrento-
Yes, the bugs do get better in the fall. But don't let that keep you from going!

I thought I reconized your boat. Yes, we came down the dock to check out that Fountain. You're good people. Next time we see you, let's have a "cocktail" or two. My wife wants to bring scorecards to grade other "visitors" on their docking skills. We were the ones "assisting" the rental's coming in.
