I've got (2) 5 gal buckets on the way, going to flush the raw water side of my mains. From what I understand:
Remove or replace zincs after
Block cooling line to dripless seal
Circulate with pump 3-4 hours.

Anyone have experience doing this?

This was from a post last year....I ended up flushing the starboard engine again but with Rydlyme (much stronger product). I had a ladder that was ladened with barnacles and soaked it in a plastic container and it worked great. Anyway, if you connect as described below you use about 1 gallon per engine. I did flush the system with fresh water first and then used Rydlyme straight (assuming I had residual water in the exhanger systems anyway). Great way to keep it clean. I did remove my zinc prior to flush.
Good Luck

Due to changes in my schedule, I ended up flying to florida to work on my new (used) boat but could not bring the Rydlyme. I purchased Barnacle Buster which is used straight. I disconnected the heat exhanger from the pump and disconnected the trans cooler and pumped from a 3 gallon pail (using the bildge pump from the forward bildge area. Anyway, the solution circulated from the bucket, up to the eng heat x thru the eng piping to the trans x and then thru a 1/2 tube up over the engine (to ensure both heat x are full of cleaner - no air pockets).

Ran this set up for 6 hours on std side and 10 hours (pump running) on the port side. The tranny heat exhangers look great but I could not see into the main x without removing the end cap.

I also put new water pump impellers in. Port side running 180f and the starboard side running 190f. The port side also pushing out much more water out the tell tale than the std side?? I guess I will be pulling the std side apart.

The Rydlyme product per directions is more concentrated. The bucket did not have lots of visible sediment. I tried that blue hose from HD but could not get it to stop leaking...so I used the connection collar from the trans exhanger as the adapter.
