Anyone suffering from buyer remorse?

I'm glad we bought a new boat 4 years ago. The SR was getting a little long in the tooth at 11 years and still looked good so we got a good price for it. This one still has many good years ahead of it, and it is a terrible time to sell. Our timing was dumb luck, but it worked out great. For those in the market for a boat and who do not need to sell, buying opportunities abound. Repos and auction sales are reportedly way up from several months ago. Many owners are upside down and prospective buyers are finding boat loans hard to come by unless they have plenty of cash and clean credit reports. Then there is the obvious question. "Is this time to buy an expensive, depreciating asset?" One site mentioned 40-50% of NADA is the common price point at auctions.

BIGGER. That is the only remorse. Between now and the spring I'll trade up to get the extra 10'. We had many days this summer with the boat filled up with family and friends; and having get more of those experiences is worth whatever the additional expense is. I will wait to see which way the economy is going though....in a worst case scenario a 46' boat is definitely the best place to have resources tied up and deppreciating.

If we would have waited the $ we put towards the boat would have depreciated by 40%. We've had more fun with the boat depreciating, so no buyers remorse. Heck one could argue that the boat was a better investment, losing less!!!

I got 6' itis while boat shopping. It saved me a BUNCH of money, as I didn't buy the wrong boat right off the bat.

Three years later, the admiral, crew, and I are well pleased with the boat. We are happy about the size for day trips. If we did overnights, that would be a different story. But I really can't afford a bigger boat anyway. . .so that is ok.

Edit to add: Well. . . .let the boating market slump a bit deeper, then a 320DA might just become affordable!

I am having a little remorse about not buying the 280DA a few months ago. But with the boat payment and the boat slip it would have put a strain on the budgett, and also where we were looking at keeping the boat, they didnt have floating docks and The hurricane that just came thru did damage a few boats here so am kinda glad we didnt buy but miss boating tremendously. It will probably be another two more years before we will be in able to buy, so my dreams of boating will just have to be and of course reading the stories here will keep those dreams alive

We never regretted any boat we bought. Our first boat was a 220 Thundercraft cruiser. After one year, we sold it for more then we paid for it, because we fixed it up and kept it extra clean. In 1996, a visit to the Searay dealer and we fell in love with a Sundancer 270, 454 Br. III. This was the one, great sporty feel, roomier and great handling. We kept this boat for two years. In 1998, after much negotiating we bought a new 290 Sd. Also a great boat, even roomier but much under-powered with the 4.3 alphas.

We kept this boat for six years. We spend every weekend from May to October on our boat, plus vacations. In 2002, our dealer called and mentioned that they had a 310 2001 in mint condition...the hook was set..again. We visited and made an offer. The prices in those days were very different then today. In 2002 the Canadian dollar was worth approx. 40% less then the U.S dollar. So, boats were 40% more. Now that the U.S. dollar took a dive and our dollar shot up....our boat depreciated about 50%. The only way we could recoup. something would be to buy a new boat again... I hear a 2003 360 Sundacer calling me from the dealer.... We enjoy boating so much that we figure that all these ups and downs will even up one day. The thrill of getting a new boat is something to be experienced, but non boaters would not understand. I love cars, and have kept the same one for now 19 years, no winters, just so we can keep on boating.
