anyone know whats going on a MM at Allatoona?

Yep, heard the same thing. I tried to talk with Joe today, but did not get him on his cell.

That would be one way to cut way back on expenses and stay alive through the current downturn of the economy. If that is happening all customers are going to have to be a little understanding on the time it takes for service repairs to be made and possibly boat deliveries cause probably the one mobile tech you mention could be spread thin. At least you will still have a dealer present.

Hello Taradise, with MM fourth Q sales dropping 45% in same store sales for the quarter, I would suspect somethings gotta give!!! Whether this be stores, employees, something! There corporate website also showed a reduction of inventory for there locations...there isn't a dealer in the country that can absorb a 153 million dollar loss of retail sales without some effect. For your sake, I hope your location will survive.

I hope most of the MMaxs can survive. IMO they are a asset to boating in general. I know some have issues with them, but in general I think they are a good dealer and resource.

I have never had a problem with MM, they were formerly Port Arrowhead here and kept the same staff. I was very sad to find out calling last week that our salesman is no longer there, then we asked for a different salesman and he is no longer there either. I am sure they have to cut back to survive, just like everyone else.

Salesmen are commission paid. They are gone because they ain't making any money selling boats and left to sell cars, insurance, etc., not because the dealership cut back. If anything the dealership could use twice as many salesmen.

Interesting point Frank, I agree with you but that might be changing soon in the boat industry. One of my buddies is in the car dealer business and they are talking about changing the way the sales people are paid because even the good ones can not make a living anymore on commission only.

Closing a location is a serious step and can have some unintended consequences. Inconveniencing (and possibly alienating) customers is not the best way to grow your business - not to mention that when you abandon a location you open the door for the competetion to move in. Also closing this location isn't going to make a dent in trying to make up for a 153 million loss of sales.
Why not dump some of the older inventory that was taken in on trade? Sales dollars are sales dollars, positive cash flow is better than no cash flow, reduction in slow moving inventory saves space, taxes & insurance - right?
