I saw this stuff called Prop Speed on the net, it sounds too good to be true, but kinda makes sense. I'll be pulling off my out-drive this winter to paint it with an anti fouling paint. I'm in salt water fighting barnacles. I'm running a Mercruiser B3 and don't see why it would work on it. This stuff is $$$ but if it does what it claims it's worth it. Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

I had Prop Speed put on my shafts and props last June or July. It has lasted about a year and a half (i checked it out when I was pulled for the hurricane). It has kept the barnicles off of both and i'm in barnicle heaven where I am. It is expensive.

The dealer applied PropSpeed to my running gear in spring 2009 and the boat has been in the water almost continuously since then. I use a diver ever couple of months to clean and he consistently marvels at how clean the running gear has stayed in comparison to the other boats he cleans. I saw this for myself last week when I pulled for the Hurricane Irene threat, didn't even really need a pressure wash.

I understand that preparation is the key. If you do not follow their instructions exactly to prep the metals, then you end up with poor adhesion and failure. I am considering it, since I just did a short haul today that cost me $258.

The stuff does not work that good a can of Interlux clear spray works much better and is $24.00 vs $189.00 doe the math.

It works! Its worth every penny! MUST apply it correctly. Helps to to have 2 people because the critical aspect (as I understand it) is to get the second coat on immediately after the primer coat.

The prep is the key and proper application is the lock. Both have been mentioned above. I've seen boats done right and boats done wrong. Night and day.

I have also heard that, once it's on, subsequent pressure washing must be done very carefully by someone who knows what they are doing, so be carefull if you have it and take the boat out of the water for any reason.

We have propspeed on our 330DA. It does work... But... The boat has to be used to get the full benefit. The growth and tiny barnacles get sloughed off by the friction of the water over the prop speeded surface rather than simply being discouraged to grow.

Preparation is everything, as already mentioned, so I had ours professionally applied the first time. I will do subsequent recoats myself.
