I did today. She screamed over channel 16, "Slow down, blah, blah, blah." At least that's what I heard.

Well of course...

come down here and try to go down the Intracoastal and they'll be yelling at you the whole way... even if you hail them on 16 and say "if you back down, I'll give you a no wake pass." About 50% will flip you the bird or hail back "what's your hurry? I'm not slowing down."

My boat does a great wake at about 14 knots.

Its like a rite of passage. Mine was a shrill, hysterical scream. You would think I picked up their anchor line or something. I never pass with a wake unless I have 100 yards between us.

I have not had it directed at me but I have heard it over the radio at boats in a no wake zone put one out.

I did yell at an a$$hole in Killarney this summer as did a lot of people seems this jerk in unfortunately is a 46' Sea Ray went through town with a huge wake. There was damage to boats and docks, an hour later he was being escorted back into town by the police. People stood on the docks and applauded as he came through.

You are responsible for your wake at least here you are and even if it is on the open water if you do damage to another boat you are held liable.

Well I have - but it was on my sailboat, so I guess that is a different story.

Heck I don't even think I would want to hit/deal with your wake head-on with my SunDeck:lol: Now where is that surfboard:thumbsup:

If I caused damage to another boat, even a sailboat, in open water with my wake, the boat would have to be made out of chopsticks. How would that happen? Even Gary can't do that. You may rattle their dentures, knock a few teacups off their cupboards, splash some crap out of their portable head, and maybe get them a little wet, but damage the boat? Not likely. I say, travel out of the harbor and do so at your own risk. The open sea can be unpredictable, that includes boat wakes.

The only time I was ever yelled at by a girl in a sailboat is when I was taking pics of her topless.

Sometimes you just can't win! Sound like you had an interesting weekend.

Sounds like the sailboat was having a bad day all around... How big was the sailboat?

I would not want to take on Gary's wake at 14K either...

I have to agree with Gary on the repeated attempts to overtake a sail boat in the ditch. When they don't come down to bare steerage, I have to go about 11-12 knots to pass them. I think that is the wake sweet spot, but hey, I asked first :)

Seriously though, a sail boat is designed to handle much bigger seas than our SR's so why do they care?

Mike, Judging by your last 2 threads, it appears you were quite the trouble maker over the weekend.

:lol::smt043:lol:
But at least he had fun. It rained all weekend and is still raining here in GA.

I always slow down near a blow boat,I've heard they boat nude (but thats another thread). What is it with these sailors this year. I have had more calls on channel 16 from mad raggers this summer than all thirty years that I've boated. And I do give right away and slow down near them, becuse you know they boat nude.

I like when they put their sails up when going head on into the wind and are under power and yell that they have the right of way because they are a sailboat.......

I couldn't tell where the shriek on the VHF came from. They were all around me up near Salem and Marblehead. None of the sailboats were less than 25'

What can I say. These 2 incidents this weekend were insignificant in a power boater's life. Imagine if we all posted about these trivial experiences. I guess I'm dredding the winter lay-up.

Some years ago, a blow boter filed a complaint that the wake of a passing powerboat caused his whine glass -- oops, I mean wine glass to fall over causing his whine -- darned typo -- his wine to spill on the cockpit carpet. Court ruled that wasn't damage and his boat wasn't prepared for operating in a sea way since his whine wasn't secured.

The only time I was ever yelled at by a girl in a sailboat is when I was taking pics of her topless.

No presumption of privacy even when out on the water.

Best regards,
Frank
