Anyone have a boating publication they like?

I used to subscibe to Powerboat reports, which was like a consumer reports for boats. They didnt take any advertising. A few weeks ago I searched for them on the internet and tried to subscibe again, but it seems that they went out of business.

Subscribe to Powerboat Reports

Sorry, Powerboat Reports is not taking orders online at this time.

I liked it to. They went out of business about 18 months ago. I got the remainder of my 2 year subscription in the form of Boating magazine - not quite the same...

I subscribe to PassageMaker, as we too plan to do the Great Loop, in our case in about 5 years when our youngest goes to college...assuming we're in economic recovery by then. I've also enjoyed Soundings, but agree the tragedy reports can be depressing. Every now and then if I have a long layover in a dull airport, I'll buy a copy of Yachting, and pretend.

Pacific Yachting- a typical glossy mag all about boating in the Pacific NW. Lot's of great articles on where to cruise, anchor, or places to visit. Here is an on-line copy of November's issue: http://www.pacificyachting.com/content/view/1325/32/ Not much in the way of boat testing- which is cool. I have all the other publications for that.

And, Sea Magazine

I have a subscription to Motor Boating magazine and I love it. Good articles, good pictures, good reviews, how to's and tech info. The boats are mostly bigger than mine but if gives me good ideas on how to improve my boat and alos what type of boat I might like once the "Itis" sets in...SeaRay is also featured alot in this mag.

Crusing World ... they actually talk about seamnaship instad of how shiney the galley counter tops are in the New Dirtbag 46.

Sea Ray Living and Marine Max lifestyles. I think I actually read about you (Gary and family) in one of them. I like the owner related stories the best.

Sea Ray living and Motoboating does it for me, and must not forget Lakeland boating. For those long winter months....

I used to read Heartland Boating occasionally but for the past 5 years or so I read mostly online. I no longer get any paper mags except National Geographic. Sorry to hear the Heartland Boating has gone downhill.

2nd that for LAKELAND BOATING - Good reading for all the Great Lakes Boaters with an occasional Great Loop type crusing article. A must read for all us freshwater Boaters in this Region.

Power & Motoryacht are worthless. I just can't relate to a 63' Pershing that does 40knots, is furnished by IKEA and costs $4million. They send it to me for free as long as I fill out some stupid "return me" card each year. I stick it in the waiting room so people will think I'm rich.

I had been getting BOATING for several years but I just cancelled it in favor of Motorboating. Boating has become almost sophomoric - lame humor, poorly written articles aimed at people with short attention spans. I just, uh, um, what was I saying...? :wow:

Think your rich? If you have a waiting room to put magazines in, You ARE rich! The only one I receive and relate to is SeaWorthy, It's the mag that comes from BoatUS and has lots of good stuff from insurance cases. I like looking at all the pictures of what not to do. For those of you who have had big boats for 40 years it's probably stupid, for those of us that are stupid, it's perfect!:smt038
