I have a couple toggles falling inside because the threaded rings won't tighten up.

I'm wanting to make new panels with rocker switches and push button breakers instead of fuses.

Just wondering if anyone's done this and how much of a pita the job is.

I'm certainly no electrician but hopefully I can handle the task.

I've found some pre wired panels but unfortunately the sizes won't fit.

good question i have been thinking the same thing to update the lower panels and make them match the new dash and guages.I was wondering if the rockers will be sufficient to replace the breaker switches.

Ha anybody replaced the vinal around the swithces and controls? Mine was totally rotted out

It's interesting that you want to "update" to rocker switches. I have the electronic control pad and I'm thinking about going back to toggle switches. I like the ones that SR has been using in their newer sport boats - brushed aluminum with LED's in the tip. They've got a very solid feel to them.

Fuses... Do you have individual fuses by each toggle? You could just install a fuse block under the dash - that way your dash will look cleaner and less cluttered (with the new panels).

Looks like you have the heavy duty toggles like breaker switches.
Mine are'nt as heavy duty and have the round ring that hold them on.

The rocker switches i was looking at, I believe are ok up to 20 amps.

I like the rockers i was looking at because they are clearly labeled. Any type of toggle would need labeling on the panel and from what ive seen, the custom panels are very expensive. I can get a fully wired panel for about the same price as a custom blank with labeling.

Im pulling off my front vinyl pad thats over top of my switch panel now to recover it.

The sundancer dash might be different than mine though.

Mines similar to the pic 1956olds posted of his with a vinyl pad over the switches.

I was looking at this site that makes custom wired panels.
The prices dont seem to bad considering the prices for individual rocker switches.

I was thinking about something like this except without the 12v recepticals.

Yes, I've found the same to be true. In my case, I can't use a standard shaped panel (square/rectangle) as the panels are shaped to fit the dash contours.
