I intend to do a little fishing off the boat. I was thinking of sinking a few rod holders and maybe setting up a bait board somewhere. Anyone done something similar?

Regards Gidders

I used something like this one on my 175 on each gunwale...a side mount unit. I could remove the actual holder and store it away when not in use. It just left a small bracket. Used it for bottom fishing and trolling too.

On my boat, there was not enough room to surface/flush mount a holder.

My son and friends did a little fishing on my boat last week, Here is a picture of an amberjack he caught. They caught 7 of these and a wahoo and some small yellowfin tunas. It just proves you can fish from a SeaRay

I have been looking at these types of systems Gun they are very handy. There is another similar style system which has interchangable fittings from rod holders to cup holders but the base unit is a little to bulky.

Nice fish docofthebay!!

Hey Gidders, I have grabbed on of these RailBlaza units.

WOndering if I can instal the starports on the textiured deck on the engine hatch ?
Or I should fashion up an extended setup to be able to instal the starports on the smooth part of the hatch ?
Anyone done this or installed this system anywhere ?
Boat is mainly for river sports etc but love to head out fishing also and want to be able to remove the bait board completely.
Any tips much appreciated,
cheers PP

I run a couple 30 degree flush mounted perkos they work good for shallow water trolling if you don't have room be careful of rail mounted rod holders I know several folks that have lost all their gear rods and reels when they had hard hits either they move or the short screws brake off. There is someone very knowledgeable on this site who is starting a business making cutting tables , sink covers or any good ideas you have from either wood or starboard you may want to PM him.

Wow Nehalennia does some great work !
They look really good
Unfortunately I'm not sure how or where I could put one on our small boat.
The only "rail" as such is the handle for the engine cover which is rubber coated,
Interesting thought though......
I jumped into the boat last night to have a look and I recon my StarPorts fittings will be fine into the engine cover.
Obviously if I need to open the cover the table will be flipped up,
But then again I can easily remove it to keep it flat and open up then.
Anyway, its cold wet & foggy here in South Australia for a few more months so I have time up my sleeve to complete the job before the sun comes out !
Plush I need to replace the brakes on the trailer first !
Cheers Bob & Sue.
