Has anyone ever used/purchased this device for winterizing their A/C or water system?

Seems very pricy (about $70) for a glorified funnel.

I saw it at the annapolis power boat show for either $30 or $50 special price last year. I forget how much, but at the time I wasnt looking for it. The power boat show is this weekend. Will take a look.

I bought it, but it didn't work on my 330, so I shelved it. It was too tight of a fit between seacocks and assorted items. Gonna try it on the 390. I think I have much more room. I'll let u know

Thanks. Please let me know your thoughts on it....

I always figured you could accomplish the same thing with a cut-off plastic funnel and a couple of bungee cords. Never had a need to try that, though.

Joe,

$225 for the kit?!?

I purchased y valves for my ac and genny. The t has a garden hose fitting and i added a quick connect. To flush, i simply close the thru hull and open the other valve that is connected to my jug of antifreeze.

That's an awfully expensive funnel.

I just disconnected the inlet hose to my strainer from the through hull fitting and connected it to my winterizing jug so I was drawing coolant in, rather than sea water.

I was thinking about adding y or t fittings so I don't have to disconnect the hoses all the time.

I never understood a need for this product. If you don't need a sealed intake (with a special cap), then why can't you just stick a garden hose right in to the strainer? What is this funnel do different, save half a gallon of antifreeze?

The benefit is the adapter that allows you to attach a 5 gallon bucket of antifreeze to the strainer without disconnecting anything. It also works well with flushing the AC unit. I am not a fan of disconnecting supply and return hoses.

Thanks for clarifying which. Since I only need it for my A/C once a year when I winterize, I have to decide which is the best way to go. Anything to make the job easier but with still the best bang for my buck.

I still have to disconnect and drain my fresh water / heater lines to flush out the water system.....

Before I made a special cap for my strainer I just had a garden hose in the strainer. I ran shore water to flush the engines and the genny, then ran the antifreeze without disconnecting anything. The only one hose I disconnect is the A/C feed to have a good seal while I flush it and run the pink.

On my 320 I had a flushing system which was used for winterizing as well. I loved its convenience. Now on my 420 I just made a cap for seastrainer (~$3-5 at HD), which works just fine.

Alex i like that cap, but if i permanetly install the groco fitting i just have to "plug" the hose into it and flush/ winterize instead of having to install the cap in the strainer. Just eliminates one step i guess To each his own

Joe,

I was actually trying to make the comparison between a cap and the $70 funnel. I like the Groco fitting as well. I just think that if you only use it for winterizing it's an overkill. However, if you're planning to use to flush the engines it's a good fit. Just a word of advise regarding the everyday flushing, you'll have to make it very simple and quick to use, otherwise you'll use it for couple of times and say forget this PITA. I loved the system I made on my 320 and I'm keeping this on a radar for my 420. I just need to gather all necessary variables and see if it's worth the hassle.
