My engine hatch lift has been running kind of slow and you can tell it's really been working to get the hatch open. Last weekend it just wouldn't do it and so I pulled it out to see if I could disassemble and repair/rebuild. I've removed the long tube that covers the screw and this had some water inside and gummy grease. It also has some crud built up on the inside of the tube. I'm gong to clean/grease the screw and remove and clean any crud from the tube/cover.

My question is, at the bottom of the screw, right where it connects to the gear box and motor, there is a metal cup and a stack of metal washers. I'm assuming this is some type of clutch? Any tips for cleaning or greasing this? Also, I don't see any way to take apart the gear box to clean and lube the gears?

Anyone have any experience with these? I'm trying to save myself $400 if I can rehab this one.

I've done what you did and cleaned, re-lubed everything. I also added a relay system into the circuit so when in use the hatch lift gets 100% battery power instead of running through the switch and then back again.
I tried to inser the image, but the system will not let me. Read through this thread (no need to be a member, the pictures still show up)
