Anyone do any boating/yachting (yatching) on Raystown Lake in Pa?

Sorry to hear you are leaving NC. We've been down here 6 years, from PA originally, (south of allentown). I have no interest in going back. Anyway, we used to go to Raystown and camp out for a couple weeks at a time. It's a real nice lake, I think you will like it.

My Grandparents had a farm in Stroudsburg (Cherry Valley) that I hunted on for years. I graduated college from East Stroudsburg University and my family is from there so I know it well. My cousins still have the farm and I still hunt there but the big million dollar homes are taking the valley over. It was a great time growing up on the farm part time.....I lived with my Grandparents my senior year of college and it was a great experience. They still were working the farm fulltime with Steers, Pigs, Chickens, etc. plus planting 100 acres. I drive a farm tractor pretty good also. PA is not so bad in general, Mike.

Usually, home is pretty good. PA is a good state to live in. All the states have their issues just stay clear of them. Enjoy the lake.

How long/late are the docks in at Raystown? A fall cruise there could be fun. Are the leaves changing yet? We just were in Edinboro Saturday and their leaves are turning quick but farther north west. I have to pull the 270 next Sunday and will be loosing our Launch Ramp, Mike.

My neighbor brought his Scarab home this weekend so I'm guessing its getting to the end of the line up there.

OldSkool....maybe we should take a day and make a roadtrip to Raystown if you get to Williamsport this month. We could take the CV-23. She's ready for a roadtrip, Mike.

I would move closer to Baltimore if I were you. We may have our problems with our Chesapeake but she is still our Treasure and I am sure that all who live, boat or enjoy activities on her magic waters would agree. There are so many places to go and see, both historical and for the recluse in a private cove tucked away in a still water creek. I may be just a little bias, having been raised on her waters and living on her waterfront now but she really is the best place to boat, and for us that are lucky enough to live on. We have hundreds of boaters from Pa. that keep there boats either at Baltimore Inner Harbor Marinas or the Northern Eastern Shore Marinas. That many people can't be wrong. Good luck with your quest.

Baltimore is nice but I could never live in Maryland. Gun laws stink and the cost of living is much higher than PA. I'll stick to the headwaters of the Chesapeake (Susquehanna) or the freshwater PA lakes & lakes/ Fingerlakes of NY. Really want to get to the 1000 Islands next summer. Raystown is a beautiful lake but the river is in town for me, Mike.

Check out travel distance to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. A large fresh water lake.

Hey Gents, thanks for all the feed back on boating spots. Mike, sorry I didn't get a chance to visit with you this fall. I spent a lot of time at our plant and had no time to get up to your area. Holidays are now on us and then a 2 week trip to Sweden in the dead of winter Jan-Feb 2012. There will be plenty of time to do some things this spring as we begin to train in Ship.

I'll keep you posted on the transition.

Sounds good....Have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!.....Ho, ho, ho. Still need to winterize my 454 and 350. Water systems are done and my macerator runs but not pumping. I had to dump my holding tank in the bilge (all liquid thank God!) and wash it out. Carried 5 gallon buckets to our septic system. Good thing we used septic treatment so it didn't smell. No pumpout stations in the county! I need to replace the impeller and my Y Valve cracked. It is 21 years old, Mike.

I agree with CV-23 that Pa. is nice and the gun laws are a whole lot better but not about cheaper to live. We are very blessed to have a nice home on the water on the Chesapeake Bay. We also have a mountain home on top of Polish Mountain in Pa. Trust me when I tell you that living in Pa. is no cheaper that Md. once you add up all the hidden cost. Raystown Lake BTW is Far superior to Deep Creek but absolutely nothing can compare with our Chesapeake. One thing is for certain though. No matter where you live, being out on the water is the best there is. An ocean, a bay, a river, a lake or a creek. It's all good and so are the folks who enjoy it and who are on this site. Think SPRING!!!

Time for me to jump in. My husband recently found out about Raystown and has heard nothing short of praises for it. We're planning a trip there and possibly 1,000 Islands (hopefully) this summer to check them out.
Good luck with your move and welcome to the cold!
