As my dad is known for saying; "If you were six inches tall, you could still get your dog to sit, but your cat would eat you."
The other one was "To the dog, you're the Master of the house. To the cat, you're just one of the hired hands."

I heard the last line just slightly different:

Dogs have owners.
Cats have staff.
