My folks saw a commercial for Behr Deckover this weekend and wondered how it would do on a pier. Their pier planks are in decent shape, but the product is supposed to fill in any cracks, capture splinters, and provide waterproofing on the top (or any coated) surface. In the past they have used the standard clear thompsons water seal and similar products.

Thought I would put up a quick posting here to see if anyone has used it, and if so, how well it worked. I wondered if it would be hot under foot during the summer, and how well it would wear. Interesting idea though.

I couldnt find a thread about this anywhere, but if there is one, please send me a link!

Thanks
James

I looked at it, as well as the Rustoleum Restore product this spring. We have two 4' x 20' and one 6' x 20' floats with standard PT deck boards. I found the cost of the materials; special cleaner, special rollers, and the material based on the number of coats needed and square footage to basically exceed the cost of re-decking the floats with new boards. That was just doing the walking surface, and nothing on the above water woodwork on the sides.

Haven't done the pier yet but our plan is to do it next spring with Behr Deckover. My ex-wife wanted the deck painted so we looked at Behr DO and went with it. The deck was all white but you couldn't go out there and sit so she had me repaint the deck portion, not the rails/spindals etc, in a light gray. I have to say the product covered very well and looks great. Amazing to me is that she now will sit out there where before she didn't.

So, +1 for the BDO coming this spring.

Iused the bent on my concrete pool deck and it worked great. My parents used the rustoleum on a weathered wood deck. They followed the directions to the letter and after one winter it peeled off. Rustoleum refunded their money and admitted that they have had many problems with customers in snowy climates.

Read the reviews on Behr Deck Over and I'm sure you will not use it. I used Behr Premium waterproof stain which is also water based instead of oil base and it covers great and lasts a long time. 36.95 a gallon

Correction on my post. After talking with the ex last night about the paint she said we didn't you the Deck Over but we did use the Behr Premium waterproof stain. Sorry about that.
