anybody own a 2000 DA 270

Art - I have a 1999 but I don't think there is much difference if any. Ask away. I believe my boat was equipped with every factory option except for a/c and gen. I know there are others here who can help too.
BTW - welcome to the board.

Hey Mark. thanks for the reply. I had a question about the pumpout. I have a macerator system. There are 2 keys. One is back next to the battery switch. The other is in the bathroom. It says waste system on the plate. What is the procedure to use this system? how does the vacuflush work? Do I need the keys on for just flushing the toilet? When I turn the keys on I can hear like water swishing back and forth.

thanks

the key by batt. switch is your ignition switch
to operate toilet you have to turn key in head
to operate macerator you need to turn and hold key in head, remember to open discharge seacock in bilge!

I have only one key in the head on the side of the sink. To use the macerator you must open the valve first, then turn the key to the spring loaded position and the macerator pump will start pumping waste thru the hull fitting. Please note that there are regulations
for discharging waste within certain distances to shore (I think 3 miles) and you could be fined. I also found that if you do not open the valve first, the duckbill (rubber valve in the macerator pump) may turn inside out, and will not pump. You will have to pull this apart and flip the valve inside out.
The toilet will flush with the water system on and the key to the on position (one click to the right).

Actually I was just recently educated about discharge limits.. Apparently the Muskeegom (sp) and the Ohio rivers are both ok to macerate according the the Coast Gaurd. And one of the Great lakes as well but I don't remember which. I was actually shocked to read of the exemption for the Ohio. Who knew

Hey Boatrboy---When I turn the key on I hear a swishing noise coming from the engine compartment. It sounds like water swishing back and forth. What is this sound?

thanks

I have the same boat in case I can help in the future but I do not have anything helpful to add about the vacuflush and macerator. I believe that I only have the key in the head and not one next to the battery except for maybe a circuit breaker switch for it. I should be going to the boat today so I will check it out.

If the key is one click to the right you are indeed hearing the vacuum pump. It should run for about 90 seconds after a flush if everything is working correctly. This basically draws the toilet bowl dry and pumps the waste into the holding tank. This is NOT the macerator as that is activated by holding the switch further (spring loaded) as I mentioned earlier.
Hope this helps.

ps - go to this link and download the owners manual from Sea Ray - it may be helpful to you.

thanks Mark---I just came from the boat again today and I checked the key in the battery switch compartment and it does say macerater right under the key. I am wondering why I have 2 keys and everybody else has only one?

thanks

It might have been added by the previous owner. I boat in an area that does not allow discharge at all so I have never used this feature in the water, only when winterizing. But - it makes sense to operate this from the cockpit rather than the head while on the water.

Look at the wiring where this compartment enters the bilge (right above the batteries) and I will guess that this is not the factory setup. It does'nt matter though if it works and operates as it should, just use it I guess. :)

I know in state of Florida if you get stopped by the coast guard and they see you have an overboard discharge and it isn't tied off they will fine you. the fine can be in the thousands of dollars. My Chaparral had a t- valve and the handle was tied with a strap in the open position to the storage tank. This Sea Ray doesn't have the t-valve. I don't know how to close it off. The coast guard board boats down here a lot, especially along the coast line.

Take a look at the line to the left of my alternator. That hose is attached to the discharge valve. I have included a close up pic too.

boatrboy--I know that is the valve with the handle on it that shuts it off from going into the water. But, in Florida that is not sufficient enough for the coast guard inspection. they want the handle tied off so it can't be opened. I guess I can mount some fasteners to the bottom of boat so I can tie the handle to it. They want to see something like a zip tie on it.

thanks

Green - As you can see my valve does not have a feature to lock it closed either. If you can not come up with a clean way of strapping it, would it be worth it to add an in line valve to the hose that locks??

Hey Todd---that should work to zip-tie it back to the hose. The coast gaurd should be satisfied.

thanks

I found out today what the 2 keys are for. The one back at the battery switch has to be on before the one in the bathroom will operate the macerater. This is a safety so someone in the bathroom can't pump over board .
