Looking for some feedback on this unit lowrance Hds 5m nautic Insight plotter model # 140-23 It looks to be a newer unit and I am told its a plotter only but can be upgraded. I have looked and haven't found anything good or bad posted on the web. I a hoping somebody here at CSR can give me the scoop.

In 2006 I purchased Lowrances top of the line depth/fish finder and a GPS. Both had issues and depth/fish finder had to be replaced. Now I know all things electronic or mechanical can have problems, but the depth/fish finder was only 2 months old. Now what really got me was the customer service. It was horrible. Probably the worst I have ever had, especially on large ticket items. I have heard they have gotten better but since I wouldn't purchase anything they make again, I don't know.

I'm not sure of the exact model, but I have a Lowrance HDS-5 w/ the transducer. This will be my third season with it and it's been working great. My only regret is not spending a little extra money and going for the 7".

I believe Lowrance is/has come out with a new version of the HDS line, so you may want to wait to either get the new version, or get a better price on the old.
