So I am just curious if anyone has ever posted production numbers on SeaRay boats. Just from a layman’s point of view it seems that there are a crap load of members on here with boats that were built between 2002 and 2008. Was that the high water mark for SeaRay Sport Cruisers?

Interesting topic. Without having those numbers available I would think those years to be about right. My guess would be that era 240SD, 280DA, and 340DA as being some of the better selling and most popular models. Maybe Captain Rusty could share some insight?

That is too bad really... Would love to know these types of things being a classic car nut and we live and breath the numbers. I almost purchased a 2005 300DA that had a bow thruster, stainless windshield and Plan B seating in the cabin. It is the only one I have ever seen equipped with that set of options.

I am a bit confused........did the fact that there are no production numbers available make the boat less suitable for your use?
No, not at all. As I stated I also have a passion for classic cars and that hobby is all about the production numbers. i just think it would be cool to know that SeaRay built X amount of 320's just like mine. Or how many 320's were built with the 496 MAG Bravo III option. When I was doing my search I found zero for sale so the production numbers on that boat had to be pretty low.

It would be interesting to know. I had a ‘95 330 that had 7.4 BIII’s. Loved it. Only other outdrive ‘95 330 I saw had B I’s. Probably weren’t a lot of them.
Current boat is a 2004. Nothing special about it other than many “experts” have told me that “it isn’t a 2004 because it isn’t in the brochures, 2004’s were 420’s.” I wonder how many 400db’s hin’s End in 04. Would be kind of cool if I just happened to have the last one.

I fully understand. I am a Ford guy who spent years looking for Galaxies, Fairlanes, Torinos and Mustangs with "R" and "Q" code 427 cid engines engines and wouldn't even go look at a car with a X code (352 cid ) motor. The difference, however, is that boats are not collectible and condition means a lot more than options, or colors.

Wouldn’t you be able to deduce this information from hull numbers? I know when I look at the sea ray parts manual I see certain parts are applicable to lower hull numbers and sometimes different parts applicable to higher hull numbers. Does this info factor into each vessel’s HIN?

The HIN# are sequential within a factory. If there were 4 different models in production then the next 4 numbers in sequence may or may not be the same model boat

The second number on the transom, unually right below the HIN is an internal production number that has no meaning outside of Sea Ray may have a sequential meaning within a model, but I don’t know how to decode it.

Bringing up this older thread for some clarification.
So do all Sea Rays have the second number below the HIN? If so, it does appear it might be sequential for my 450 EB being one of the earlier ones produced in 98-99. Here is my 99, number 6 and a 00, number 8.

The top number is the USCG required HIN # it is decoded as follows:

US. Boat was built for the US market
SER Vessel is a Sea Ray
P boat built in Palm Coast FL plant
4154 this is the serial number of the boat The next number in sequence could be a bow rider or a 680sss
G boat was built in July
8 boat was built in 1998
99 manufactured as a 1999 model boat

The lower number is an internal number for Sea Ray and their dealers and generally has no significance outside of Sea Ray and their dealers.

450EB is the boat model
506 is the hull number and is the number SR and the dealers refer to when they need to discuss a specific boat. This number is sequential within the factory but may change at a model year change. My 450DA is a Palm Coast boat built in May of 1996 and the hull number is 613.....the 450EB and 450DA are built on the same hull, yet my boat was built in 4/96 and yours in 7/98, 27 months later but your 2 boats have about 100 earlier hull numbers.

There was a model change in the year after my boat was made and only 3 boats were made in the next year that were identical to mine. Every time I need help looking up something or sourcing hard to find parts I have to give SR the hull number instead of the HIN#

Sometimes, in the world of Sea Ray, this stuff only make sense to computer types or accountants.............I'm like everybody else: Just an owner struggling to make sense out of it because the better I understand it the easier it is to work with parts or customer service folks.

Thank you Frank for that explanation. It was so precise, I had to edit my prior post because I thought #508 was also a 1999 model, but it was built a year later in July of 99 as a 2000 model. I was hoping that they would be sequential and I could look at a hull number at the beginning and end of the production run (98-04) for the 450 EB to get an estimate of the total number of boats built, but I guess that is really not possible. Maybe someday one of those computer types or accountants will open their books to us common folks. o_O
