I have no issue with swapping out a battery on an automobile, but are there any reason I should not be able to simply remove the old one and shop for a new one with it ? Are there any 'special' marine issues I should be aware of when replacing a boat battery ? (will the radio memory, other components, etc. be affected much)

I have a 240 SeaRay Sundeck, 2006, with original battery, and my gut says to go ahead and replace a nearly 5 year old battery ? or is this overkill? It has been a little slow cranking, but not terrible.

Also, what is this 2 battery situation I read about to keep the stereo running on one while sitting still, but reserve for starting the engine ?

Your radio memory will probably be lost.

The best advice I can give you is to buy a Maintenance Free (Sealed) AGM Battery such as an Optima or Sears Platinum Marine. Since you likely only need a Group 27, the Optima will probably better for you.

Also, make sure your battery switch is set to OFF before doing anything.

YES, if you think the battery is going, just replace it. Once a battery goes bad it can start causing all kinds of problems and other than maybe leaving you stranded it could damage your alternator or ECM as well.

Wow.. love the quick reply ! Thank you..

Being kinda ignorant, but not afraid to ask, how will battery memory affect things...Not worried about radio station presets, time, etc...that is easy...are there any issues with the smartcraft settings ? Or anything else for that matter?

Smartcraft gauges remember. You can also use one of the 9V battery adapters that you plug into the power receptacle that will keep your radio memory intact with the main battery disconnected.

I would definitely look into adding a second battery. The peace of mind is worth it. I just replaced my batteries after 4 years and recommend @ 5 years you are definitely due.
