Any news on new Garmin models?

My personal bet (hope) is for the boat show in October.

My guestimate is a slightly updated 700 series that can talk "wireless" and a new replacement line for the 4000 and 5000 series.

Bluechart Mobile was supposed to launch "Summer 2012" but there is just about one week left of that. And if you check the Bluechart mobile - is shows it is only compatible with the units with Garmin Marine Network devices - so the "Wireless" interface will be a separate box with Garmin Marine Network. And that is why I think the 700 series will be updated.

But I do think Garmin had their issues internally in the Marine division - since the just hired a new marine Product/Development director not long ago.

If Garmin does not launch some nice new GPS's soon - I'm heading to Simrad NSS or the replacement for the NSE (Which is showing it's age as well). I really like the Simrad 4G radar and the Structure Scan - since I scuba dive a lot. But I also love Garmin Autoguidance for the safety aspect and the user interface.

But my biggest wish is for some 10" GPS screens - since they are the "best" possible fit for my 310DA helm..

Am I to believe that Garmin has a better clamp on new model information than Apple?

We knew months in advance what features Apple was testing, some made the cut some didn't. What gives with Garmin???

I heard also that there will be a wireless version is coming in the 700 garmin serie.
I am making new dash panels and TECNOGRAFIC asked if he must make a hole for the a plotter.

I think I make my own hole when we know what type it will be.

We just have to wait........

I havent gotten much info lately, I have been super busy with not much time to hunt for new parts. I will be going to Garmin Nov28th for new product training and will get the skinny on anything new for the upcomming season.

I can tell you all that the GPS-Mapxxxx were all suposed to be changed to a Colorado series starting with the 400 and 500 series a year or two ago and had to be stopped because of some major error. I am not sure if it was with the maps or the hardware but I couldnt get any of them for months. Then all of a suddon I could get the same ol 541s. I was told they were all going Colorado line but take that for what its worth.

I tell my rep on a regular basis that if they did a down imaging unit they would put Lowrance out of business in no time.

I am a scuba diver and would love to be able to get side imaging/down imaging on my 5208 but the only way to do that is with a Humminbird 8000 series through the video input line.
I have a humm 581DI for searching the bottom for now.

Be very carefull about switching away from garmin if you are looking to upgrade. I deal with Tech support for about every company on a regular basis. After talking with a few of the techs you will be running back to Garmin. There customer service and tech support are where they really shine.

I will do some snooping with my rep tomorrow and report back with any intel.

Hope that helped even though it was really just babble.
