Any Lake George Boaters Here???

I usually get up ther once a year for a week, what a beautiful place!

Just saw this post. I'm a Lake George regular. Are you still watching this post?

PLanning on getting up there this coming '08 Season with out newer boat!
Would love to get some info on this place from the regulars.

We take my son's 18' bow rider up there every summer. It is a beautiful lake and I hope I can keep doing this for many years to come. Next year will be my 21st year taking the boat there.

Can you guys recommend some areas to stay up there?
My wife and I are planning on hauling our new baby up there this coming summer.
Mind you my wife is not much of a camper.....not high maint. but loves likes her ammenities.
I would like a place with a dock....any other things to look out for?

We stay at Depe Dene. They have docks and a nice beach. You might also look at Treasure Cove and The Bolders. We normally reserve for the following year when we check out. As for launching, we us either Gilchrist or Beckleys.

Thanks guys, I'll check those places out... Couple more questions
1. There a place to get a chart or is it not needed? Looks like an enormous lake.
2. are there any special permits and such needed to boat/launch up there?

I buy my weekly sticker at a fishing store near Depe Dene that sells the sticker you will need before you launch your boat. The price is $11.00 if I remember correctly. I think they also sell a map for the lake which you migh want to buy if it your first time on the lake.
The lake is 32 miles long and has many areas to explore.

There are rock formations that are marked by bouys and if not careful, you could ding your prop or loose your lower unit. It is a beautiful lake and I look forward to returning there next year.

Where do you put your trailers for te week/weekend when you launch? do they have storage either at the motel or cottage rental?

Years ago... back in the 90's....we trailered our 22' ( non Sea Ray ) boat to Lake George every season. We launched the boat and stored our car/trailer at Boltons Landing Marina. It was a great proximity to the lake. If I remember correctly they also had charts of the lake......and a list of the Islands you could rent a slip on.....for the night. We always had a great time on Lake George.

Not sure if they still have the same amenities....but here's their site :

Actually haven't booked yet......Really dropped the ball
Wife is travelling this week and coming home tomorrow, we will pick a weekend this coming weekend. Planning on a Thurs-Mon

We have been going there for two weeks in July, for 23 years. It's such a beautifull place. If you are staying in a hotel/motel, you can probally get a weekend. But if you want to stay in a resort like Depe Dene, most if not all only rent Saturday to Saturday. Good Luck

We also stay at Depe Dene and go the third week in July. Are you there that week?

If you haven't made a reservation, you better try soon as we book the day we leave for the following year.

I too am coming up to Lake George this summer for the very first time. I rented one of the camping islands for 3 days in hte very beginning of June. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this lake..I cant wait!!! There is alot of info online about the area....but locals...is there any inside info that should be known-places to visit on water-places to eat-places to see....

Family and I will be bringing our boat up to Lake George this summer, first time with our new boat in the past always rented. We're staying at the Canoe Island Lodge, nice place with their own private island.

Have boated there many years and still get there when I visit. That is one place i miss in the summer. Log Bay parties are the greatest! And its just a quick ride over to the Algonquin for a nice dinner or lunch. There is usually a lot going on in Sandy bay also.
