I'm in Fallbrook, CA for Thanksgiving with my brides family. It doesn't appear that there is a boat rental place that I could rent a boat to take to Catalina for the day.

Any ideas?

Todd,

Southern Cal has never had a lot of charter boat. Not sure why. Maybe because there is really no sheltered places to cruise.

There are passenger boats that go to Avalon daily. It would be cheaper that a rental and you would not have to deal with the need for a dink or the water taxi if you did find a boat to rent.

Catalina Express runs boats out of Long Beach. http://catalinaexpress.com/ They also run out of Dana Point which is closer to Fallbrook.

The Catalina Flyer http://www.catalinainfo.com/ is another option and it runs out of Newport Beach.

The trip on the boats is not bad and can be enjoyable as you don't have to worry about geting your boat there, getting a mooring, etc.

Thanks Shawn. Yeah we've done the Catalina Express before. It's OK, but I'm not the cattle tour type. It is the most logical way to get there though. I'd just like to make a run out there either with my own boat(not too economical to drag it down here) or rent one to run out, also not too economical.

Thanks for the post though.
