Any 185 Sport'ers have any issues with their seats not locking into place

I've only had the boat 1 month and both seats are spinning at the base where post is conntected to the hull. Of course the first response from the dealer was that I wasn't locking or didnt have the tightning bolt tight enough. I informed him that both were locked and tightned but the seats were spinning at the base not at top where all of the hardware was. I pulled the boat out and took it to the dealer to have the seats looked at along with the fuel gauge since it almost always read 1/2 full until the gas drops below 1/2 and when I showed them the seats their response was 'that's not how they are supposed to work'..... we will have to call SeaRay and get some new parts for you.

Those seat bases are used on many models, not just 185's. I think the dealer's response was appropriate. What else should they have said? They said it's wrong and they'll fix it. I will say, though, that that is pretty odd - I'm not in the shop all the time, but I can't remember the last time I saw (or even heard of) that.

I wasn't necessarily upset with their response of 'that's not supposed to be like that', it was more based on the comment that I wasnt locking and tightening the seat properly.

Upon removing the seat from post I noticed there was a lot of verticle play in the based and the post. It almost seems as if there was a a spacer or a part missing between the hull deck and the post. I'd like to see the instructions and parts required for assembly.

I understand. Sometimes things get lost in translation over the phone (even more so via texts and emails!) - it sounds like they simply thought you were referring to the seat base - just a miscommunication.

The posts are simply pressed into the deck flange. Does it look like it isn't pressed all the way in?

I'm not sure.... If I pull up and try to twist the post I can feel the post trying to grab something but its as if its stripped. As soon as I let go and twist it spins like a top.

The post shouldn't move - like I mentioned, they are just pressed in. In fact, you should be able to see this easily if you remove the seat. The "bubble" near the bottom of the post should be almost touching the top of the deck mount and the (complete) bottom of the post should almost be touching the floor.

Finally made it up to the dealer to get my seat posts replaced. After removing the defective seat posts you could easily see they were defective. As Lazy Daze said there should be a bubble at the bottom but my defective ones bubble was approx. 75% smaller than the ones that we used to replace. No wonder they wouldn't lock properly. I am surprised that these parts are not spot welded after being pressed during assembly.

Good - glad you got it figured out. This is certainly a very rare problem - never heard of that one before!

Welding? That would make that pole just that much harder to get out. Besides, like I mentioned above, this a very rare problem - with the proper size pole, I can say with 99.999% certainty that it will never get loose.

Anyways, at least you can stop spinning!
