Another steering question

I plan to replace my rack and pinion cable this spring. I also came across a good used tilt setup. My question is should the pinion housing assembly be replaced with the new cable, or do they not really wear? I have seen new cable kits with the pinion housing assembly included for only a little more than the cable alone. I don't believe the tilt system uses the same pinion housing assembly.

John, give us a little more info. What year and size boat? Do you know what it has in it now? My 05 260DA has a SeaStar. It came as a complete assembly with the cable and the rack. Only took me in a buddy about 45 minutes to get the old one out and the new one in. Be sure to attach a piece of line to the old one where it attaches to the drive, so when you pull it out from the helm side you leave a rope behind that you can tie the new one to and pull it back to the drive. That way you don't have to fish the rack assembly through.

93 250 EC. Has teleflex rack and pinion, non tilt. Shouldn't be any trouble. Have ez access to cable all the way. My EC has a low floor and a tall helm seat ( no aft bunk) so I stand and drive a lot so thought tilt might be nice.

Does your 260 have tilt? Did you replace the helm mount housing with the new rack and cable? I've seen some kits have cable with rack and helm mount assembly complete, and others just rack and cable. The tilt helm assembly I am looking at uses a different backside housing than a non tilt, so trying to find out if the helm housing should be replaced with the new rack and cable. Thanks.
