My speedometer isn't budging off 0 mph. I'm assuming my pitot tube (310DA - pitot only on stb outdrive...right?) is clogged. So I took the suggestion that I change my speedometer to use GPS (which is running fine with the C80), but the speedo is still at 0 mph. I did re-run the configuration to make the setting was saved.

I plan on cleaning out the pitot tube, but any thoughts to why the speedo isn't working with the GPS?

    Thank you for the assistance.

And GPS is turned on in the speedometer too.

are you sure that your c80 is connected to smartcraft? without connection you will have no gps speed reading. are you sure that tube is clogged? raise drive to trailer position and check if tube didn't slip out from connector (yellow plastic nipple)

How do I check to see that C80 is connected to smartcraft? I thought it all was connected by default, but maybe not.

I will check the tube connector - thanks for the help.

On my boat there is no way to get my speedometer interfaced with GPS and thus read the GPS speed. I would think your 310 is no different but I could be wrong.

My GPS will only operate thru the chartlotter. Even though I have my chartplotter interfaced to smartcraft it is a one way street. Smartcraft can feed data to it (allowing me to display a whole bunch of information on the chartplotter) but there is no way to have two way communication and have the chartplotter feed things back to smartcraft.

Wait a sec.... 1) What year is your boat? 2) Do you have Smartcraft? I guess I missed the part where it was determined a mechanical pressure gauge could be converted to an electronic gauge.

If you do not have Smartcraft, you can not convert the speedo to supply SOG data from C80.

If you have Smartcraft, there are a number of possible problems:

original problem - no speed readings
    a) drive is plugged,
    b) tube has slipped out of connection to drive
    c) transducer inside on transom has failed
    d) smartcraft harness plug has problem

    Connection to C80,
    a) there must be a NMEA0183 connection between the C80 and a system class smartcraft device, e.g. SC1000 tach or speedo, System View, or Vessel View display,
    b) NMEA output must be turned on on C80
    c) SOG sentence output must be turned on on C80
    d) System device must be turned on to output SOG.

    Dave,

The C80 can output the SOG sentence to SC. I have it set up to do that on mine. Mine worked great from the beginning when I first installed it, although I have heard of cases where it was problematic.

    Thanks guys.

    I have a 2007 310DA with SmartCraft installed.

The SC does allow me to use GPS and and choose it for speed and the transition is set to 5 MPH. But if I can't get the pitot sensor to register with 5 MPH, will it ever transition?

I also turned on the speed display on the stb tach and it's showing a constant 0 MPH. I tried enabling the pitot tube on the port tach and got a SYS FAULT saying the sensor isn't reporting, so I'm assuming that the stb pitot sensor is installed and at the very least reporting back that it's there.

Thanks for the help folks, this is a new boat to me and I'm still trying to figure it all out before I pay a professional to flip a switch for $75/hour and honestly I love tinkering.

    Henry,

Did you have to change any settings on the C80 to do this?

    Thanks!

In the System setup section, off the Menu button, you have to enable NMEA0183 output and some other stuff.

Bridge NMEA Heading. The default is OFF and should be off if you have a Raymarine compass and heading sensor installed to sync radar to chartplotter.

NMEA Output Setup, should give you the sentences. Default for all of this stuff is OFF, I think VTG covers speed, but turn them all ON to start.

NMEA Port Setting Default is NMEA4,800 leave it on default

Keep in mind I installed a new C80 out of the Raymarine box. If your display was installed by Sea Ray, or the selling dealer, NMEA0183 may be on, but the specific data sentence for speed could have been disabled by the installer. Scott's suggestion will at least get you an understanding if there is communication between the C80 and SC, but may not confirm that SOG data is being sent.

Thank you - I will try this too. This boat is new to me and it was a bank repo. It appears that all the settings were messed with by who knows who and I'm going through and trying to straighten them all out without performing a master reset which I believe will really screw up the SmartCraft settings with twin engines.
