Well we were all suppose to get together next week in Lake havasu, but instead the Las vegas Marinemax has been given 10 days to close. That store has been there since the beginning and according to my salesman has been a proformer, but hey who knows. I still have access to marinemax's in my area. Phoenix is only 3 hours away vegas is 1 1/2 away so I can still get to one.

If it was a performer, it wouldn't be closing. Out of curiosity, why would you care about MM access?

MM St. Louis is closing as well. Things are pretty grim in MM land. They are combining stores.

This is my third boat from them and they do provide good service overall. I also enjoy the planned getaways through out the year as a way to get to know other searay owners. While I live in a big boating area my main area doesn't have a lot of searays. My salesman has me over and he and I have boated together with his wife and kids. Just gotten use to having them there. I could call him from out on the ocean with a question and he would get me answer. Just worked for me!

Sounds like your salesman is more than just a salesman to you -- he's a boating buddy. Keep in touch with him. Friendships on the water are part of what make boating special.

I miss the old days when going out of town meant looking up the local Mom and Pop Sea Ray dealer. I visited 'Sea Ray of Las Vegas' many times but when they became just another MarineMax it became much less appealing.

I hope that if/when things rebound we see a return to the independent dealer scenario.

I agree. While MM has some premier locations. Many locations sound as if MM struggles to run them appropriately.

MM in Bear, DE is also closing. I only care because my marina will surely want to recoup from slipholders the $11K per month rent they were getting from MM.

I can't believe we will no longer have a Sea Ray presence in St. Louis anymore. I still have my MM in Nixa, and 5 years left on a 6 year warranty - I really hope they make it. That store qualifies as on of the good ones.

I don't wish them harm, however I doubt they will make it.

1st quarter report:

Revenue was $100.2 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2008 compared with $215.3 million for the comparable quarter last year. Same-store sales declined approximately 52% compared with a 9% decrease in the comparable quarter last year. Revenue from stores recently opened or closed that were not eligible for inclusion in the same-store sales base was $7.6 million. The net loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 was $14.3 million, or $0.78 per share, compared with a net loss of $6.4 million, or $0.35 per share, for the comparable quarter last year. Included in the first quarter fiscal 2009 net loss was $0.02 per share of costs associated with the closing of five stores during the quarter.

They are burdened with a lot of debt, high rent areas and a lot of bad press regarding service after the sale. Not a great situation to be in at any time. Now it could be a kiss of death.

They have closed all of their stores in Northern California, except for the Oakland store which is expected to service all of the areas. That is absurd. Anyone know the criteria to become a Sea Ray dealer? Now is the time to get on the ground floor.

Aaron - MM Bear will stay open until they commission all the boats they are supposed to service. After that, mobile service from Baltimore. Don't know about parts, you may want to give'em a call.

Obviously they are "cutting to the bone". Service will be their #1 priority. Be careful because the Service Manager is the Sales Manager. If you have service done, negogiate, this will be their money maker!
