Another Malaysian 777 crashes in the Ukraine

Wow, that is a terrible thing to happen! Nice comment Mike, I'm sure you didn't mean anything bad but it looks ugly. I hope, if it was shot down, they find the people responsible and drop them from the same elevation. So many innocent people had no chance.

Hard not to crash when your plane gets a hole poked in it by a missile at 30,000 feet.

This is a terrible tradgedy and not a time for humor. The poor people on board who lost their lives, many I understand children on school vacation. The families of all those nearly 300 souls lost will all be devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. Notwithstanding, this is also just a horibble thing to happen to Malaysian Airlines in such a short time after their other unexplainable crash. Just wonder if they will recover from this. As for the scum who shot a civilian airliner down, truly hope they all rot in hell. Accidents do happen but...........

Some people on this site will find bad in anything others say.

Scott,

I've spent a fair amount of time in Malaysia and Singapore. My non scientific observation is that both governments are largely paranoid. As a result, There is a very tight control on outside news. While other people might interpret the downing of a Russian combat plane in the same air space a day before as a war zone, the folks in KL at MH might never have seen that on their news. And rather than shift traffic away from the Ukraine, they just did a business as usual.

I will say, I don't want this to become a political thread. However, I do feel that our country has enough to worry about at home so I don't know if we should have a place in Ukraine.

I could not not imagine the feeling of knowing I was being shot down if I survived the initial hit. I hope that whomever did this is caught and held accountable for the murders of 295 poor souls. I don't know, but couldn't this be considered a war crime also?

I too pray for all the lost ones and their families from both flights. I also pray for all of us.

Do remember different folks may process things differently. When I saw Mike's post I didn't read disagreement or smart a**, I read this guy may have pondered the first planes demise and feels it a silver lining we a least have closure for these folks. I wonder the worldwide panic if another entire plane "just disappeared"?

While we (the US based airlines) are not flying in that airspace, the MH airline was not in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were under ATC control, on a established airway. Let's put the blame where it belongs, with the terrorist who shot it down. I don't dispute what you said about the governments of those countries though, you are absolutely correct.

Now, I would assert that the separatist would very likely not be in business had the world leaders (meaning us) taken a stronger stance in the Russian/Ukraine conflict. But we'll never know that now. The world is falling apart, because bad people know that there is no repercussion from crossing the "red line" and they are free to do whatever the heck they want. Oh well, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Russia, Ukraine, Afghanistan....they all are on the other side of the world, so they can't hurt us......meanwhile they are finding qua ran's and prayer rugs at the US/Mexican border...we are really in trouble and soon it's going to be a US Airliner burning on the ground.
It already has been...did the borders get any tighter?

One of the greatest tragedies that will be felt indirectly, is the loss of 100 persons involved with AIDS research who were aboard the flight. Having worked in Med and Pharma research for 30 years myself, I know that this amount of knowledge, both institutional and scientific, is an extreme blow to the Med and Science research community.

What a tragic loss! Hopefully this will inspire more young Dr's to dive into the infectious disease field.
