I'm on my 3rd year with my original batteries and I'm looking to switch to the Optima BlueTops. My boat will take a Group 27 or 31. I did some Googling and the specs look the same except for the dimensions. I can get the 27's for under $200 and I'm wondering if the only difference between 27 & 31 the physical dimensions?

I was looking at the website where I was going to buy them and didn't see a difference. Looking further the only difference I can see between 31/27 is: 75 vs. 55 Ah and reserve capacity being 155 vs 140 minutes. Not a huge difference for my needs.

I guess I'm answering my own question.

This lays it out in a nice table format. Few differences- cranking amps, ah and rc. If a 27 will fit u're needs I say get that one. Although if they are close in price I'd get the bigger 31. And if I ever do it again I'd spring for the Lifeline 27's. How many batts are you looking for... am not familiar with the single engine setup.

I see in antother thread u have 2. If I were you, I'd get one fancy house battery and one cheap red optima for starting... my .02

Thanks Kevin -- that's what I was looking for. I'll go with a 31 for the house and the red for starting.

I have been having great service with my 3 Lifeline 31's! They aren't cheap, but they are awesome.

I just ordered two of the 31m Optimas for my boat today. Everywhere I looked they were around $239.00. I found them at NAPA for under $200.00. I pick them up tomorrow.

Really....there's a NAPA close to me so I will check that out. Thanks!

EDIT: I just checked online and my local NAPA is asking $274 for the 31. That's insane.

I am trying to find out if I can get 31s with a 40% off coupon from Advance. That would make them $186. Please check out my thread. Anybody already a member? MM

I just bought a D34 Blue top from Costco for $159 and installed is as my dedicated genny battery.

I agree. Didn't know they would have different prices. I bought them today for $412 and change. That was for two 31M's. I had to return the cores as well. I installed them and there is no problem with the fit.
