We have been on the boat for the last 10 days, all good.

Yesterday the saloon air con unit stopped and is showing Hi Ps on the readout.

My confusion is that the front bedroom unit is working fine, no problem at all.

I have cleaned the screen in front of the condensor, no difference. I am hoping the fact that forward unit is working well narrows down the potential causes of problems for the saloon unit.

Boat is in Spain, and getting a service technician may be difficult, (small fishing village and language difficulties) so the more I can work out the better.

Any guidence very much appreciated.

Graham, I have gone through this recently with both the forward and main salon units. In both cases it was the discharge line from the unit to the common drain. The salon unit was the easiest to fix. I removed the line from the discharge end of the ac unit and put a hose fitting in the line. Then hooked a garden hose to it and let house pressure run for about 20 minutes. There was a surprising amount of dirty water and small shells that came out. After reconnecting and cleaning the strainer all has been normal since.

Hi Graham, we have had the same issue on our cruiser once or twice so now in the sumer months, about every 6 weeks, we put 1" chlorine tablets in the strainer to kill the barnacle growth etc. When it was very bad and that did not really help we poured a 50/50 mix of water and Phosphoric acid through the system and that worked wonders. Cleaned the pipes all out and the discharge water flow was the best we had ever seen it. Would NOT recomend that you use Muratic acid though (some folks do) but it's a tad dangerous. Good luck! Get your local AC technician to flush the system with amuriatic acid solution. That should clean everything downstream from the strainerand pump. I had similar issues with my systems and the muriatic acid proceduresolved everything. The acid wash proceduredoses not harm internal plumbing. I would also suggest that you upgrade the sizecirculating pump; increase the water flow by 25 to 50%. Increasing the volumeof water for cooling made all the difference in my systems.
