And another one bites the dust......

The local prosecutor announced yesterday that no charges would be brought against the homeowner for the fatal shooting of the intruder. In a televised interview he said that (paraphrasing his words) when you illegally enter someone else's home you are committing a burglary. When the homeowner shot the intruder he was in fear for his life and the life of his family.

The intruder, who had a blood alcohol level of .35% (over 4 times the legal limit for a DUI) was 6'5" tall. The homeowner is around 5'9" tall and felt threatened by the intruder's physical size, in addition to his actions.

One thing that I got out of the interview was that from the time the call was placed to 911 by the homeowner's girlfriend, it was 7 minutes until the police arrived.

Think about that for just a moment. If someone were trying to get into your home, as happened in this incident, what would you have done to protect yourself and your family for that 7 minutes?

Please don't turn this into a political debate of pro-gun vs anti-gun.

I agree with the prosecutor , though I don't own a weapon I believe you should be able to protect your family , entering a home illegally your going to die this needs to be clear to everyone .

How can one answer the question without seeming either pro or anti-gun?

As for my answer, I'm with Rick...

In an effort NOT to say I'm pro handgun. I'm going to answer this way first. 7 minutes would give me enough time to restrain the dog, get the wife and girls into one area of the house, most of which would have been done BEFORE the phone call to PD. Warn the person or persons, by letting that slide slam shut. THEN if they were stupid enough to continue to advace...I would still have enough time to place a fresh clip in and call PD back and advise them not to rush.

A am pro hand gun...this guy did the right thing!

The intruder came through an exterior door. Not much in a house to stop him once he's in unless you have a "safe room" built in. I'd be happy the intruder stumbled back out of the door and bled out in my yard instead of on the carpet.

Well, not quite "bites the dust", but they got dust in their mouth...

Neat story with photos and video...

Unfortunately nothing will happen to those two slime bags except maybe free room, board, medical, and dental for a few months. Might have been better to get the lady away from the scene and put a couple of slugs in the gas tank of the get away car. They defininitely wouldn't be repeat offenders. Darn, am I thinking out loud again? At least there was someone there to intervene. I don't understand what motivates people to try such things in areas where it is legal to carry a concealed weapon. But,,,, what do I know,,,, who grew up in the bush with just bears and cougars to worry about? Glad she's okay. Sure glad the TV station showed us the cameras four times too.

I've followed this thread without comment, until now! My opinion is mine and mine only!

1). The original argument in my house would have been who's calling 911.

A) wife loves her Rem 870
B) son looks for a reason to showcase his .38
C) son #2 only needs the opportunity. Very well trained and loves his AR-15
D) I like 'em all. My 1896 Colt police positive is my go to!

2). Guns don't make you dangerous! They only makes dangerous people more lethal!

A) only people can murder people!
C) anything else is an accident

3). If you are afraid of guns! You have far greater problems then someone else having one!

A) dogs bite! Sometimes the owner.
B) alarms can fail.
C) locks on doors are worthless, if you have a window in your home!

Anyway, if my family didn't own guns, I'd love to have neighbors that did! Good people with guns are the ones that made this debate possible for all of us in this great nation!!

(I'm not a writer so don't pick me apart for "trying" to express an opinion)

thanks,

Hey Mark, don't apologize for your opinion. I'M the one who should be apologizing for the two slugs to the fuel tank. Now THAT was a bad attitude.:smt018

Great story and thanks for sharing. I am coming around on this late but have read all of the posts and I agree the home owner is a hero for protecting his family. I have an alarm system and a big dog. The sole purpose of both are to give me enough time to grab the Glock 40 cal from the night stand and deal with the situation. I also have a license to carry a concealed weapon and God Bless America for that right.
