I am looking at changing up my stock anchor (35lb gal plow) which has held ok but seems small for a 25K lb boat ... for a 72 lb Rocna Vulcan.
Any advice or other suggestions. Boating is in the Thousand Islands and shores of lake Ontario. Pretty much every kind of anchorage you will find. I keep a second 35lb Danforth aft anchor that I use in many tight anchorage circumstances.

P.S. for anyone interested, one of my favourite anchorages ... all rock.

The rocna is a very good anchor, the coq is considered by many to be the best. I think something in the 55lb range would sufice , but the 72 would be ok also

Love the video. Excellent fender deployment.

As you have experienced for your self, the stock Delta plow anchor is just ok, as an overall use anchor. Unfortunately, many manufactures put slightly smaller anchors (just make the compliance), and SR was no exception for our boats. I have all chain and 35lbs SS delta anchor is doing a decent job when I compensate by adding scope (in a range from min 7:1 to 10:1). in normal conditions and 12:1-15:1 when it blows. The problem is when it's too deep or not enough swinging room.

Having said that I would only look in to new generation anchors like Manson, Rocna, Ultra, Spade, etc. Go for larger version. These are expensive anchors and you want to buy it once and buy it right.

The OEM anchor is a Kodiak and can be purchased through your dealer or direct from the following:

My boat is of similar size and weight to yours. I got rid of the OEM anchor and had a 35 Lb Ultra anchor installed. I have 100 ft of chain and the rest is rope.

This relatively light weight anchor with the chain holds the boat like superglue and paper. i have no problem leaving my boat unoccupied, anchored, and going for a swim on a windy day.

The ultra is not cheap, but imo there is no better anchor out there.
